The installation of the all metal ITER like first wall at JET has profoundly affected the way JET can be operated. Operating with this beryllium and tungsten wall is significantly more difficult than operating with a carbon wall. Issues which have to be handled are; accumulation of metallic impurities in the plasma core, the risk of melting plasma facing metal components, increased disruption forces etc.  In addition several concerns specifically associated with operation with either pure tritium or mixed deuterium-tritium plasma also have to be considered.  The presentation will describe these new challenges and the real time control schemes which have been or are being developed to help meeting them.
