Representations in visual cortex are modulated by extra-retinal signals such as attention and the valence of sensory stimuli. In my lecture I will discuss about retinotopic-specific modulations of cortical activity that depend on prediction error, as shown by manipulations of reward magnitude, cue-reward probability, cue-reward familiarity, and dopamine signaling. I will also discuss results of experiments that attempt to demonstrate a causal role of the primate ventral midbrain in reward-dependent modulations of visual cortical activity.
