\r\nInformation Days - Architecture Section SAR
\r\nThis event is aimed at Swiss high school students, vocational schools offering a diploma, and international students. The Information Days include one day of presentations followed by one day of workshops. The architecture presentation (Novembre 18 and 19) covers key aspects of the architect profession and the foundations of the program. Career opportunities are also discussed, with questions answered by students from the architecture department. During the architecture workshop, emphasis is placed on practical learning. It includes a concrete exercise focused on observation and representation of spatial concepts, followed by group discussions in the afternoon.

EPFL Architecture is pleased to invite you to visit the exhibition of the Master students' work until July 31 at the Rolex Learning Center.
\r\nThe exhibition is divided into three distinct areas: the first brings together projects focused on resources and craftsmanship, such as wood, earth, and self-construction; the second features projects exploring urban and territorial scales; and the third presents work on social or individual housing, as well as interventions in existing buildings, including transformation, rehabilitation, and renovation.
\r\n
\r\nThe final reviews for the 2026 master's projects will take place from July 8 to 15 at the Rolex Learning Center and are open to the public.

The synergistic element to solve important research challenges is the key element for successful project proposals.

\r\nMax. EUR 10 Mio for a period of max. 6 years (including 25% overhead; pro rata temporis for shorter project duration). However, an additional EUR 4 million can be made available to cover eligible “start-up” costs for researchers moving from a third country to the EU or an associated country and/or the purchase of major equipment and/or access to large facilities and/or other major experimental and field work costs, including personnel costs.

\r\nCarrying the Torch
\r\n
\r\nAbstract
\r\nFrom my perspective as a researcher and educator, the torch represents the message that I carry and will pass on to a new generation of scientists and engineers. The interaction and networking with the community is essential to our activity: indeed, we teach to and learn from each other. The circle symbolizes the flow of information among peers as well as a paradigm where crossbreeding of ideas and methods is key to scientific advances. This message will be portrayed with examples from my scientific career and a vision of the future.

\r\nAbout the speaker
\r\nGiovanni De Micheli is currently the Scientific Director of the EcoCloud center at EPFL. He was professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Stanford and EPFL for 40 years. Prof. De Micheli is a Fellow of ACM, AAAS and IEEE, elected member of 4 Academies, including the US National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was the recipient of the 2025 IEEE Gustav Kirchhoff Award, the 2022 ESDA-IEEE Phil Kaufman Award and several other awards.

\r\nSupport for excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they are already established research leaders with a recognised track record of research achievements. Principal Investigators must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition, and feasibility of their research proposal.
\r\n An ERC Advanced Grant Principal Investigator is expected to be an active researcher and to have a track record of significant research achievements. The scientific excellence of the research project and the applicant’s track record are the only evaluation criteria.
\r\n
\r\nLump-sum Funding & duration
\r\nUp to EUR 2.5 mio. for a period of 5 years, including 25% overhead. For shorter project periods, the budget will be applied pro rata temporis. Additional funding up to EUR 1 mio., including 25% overhead, may be requested for well justified reasons; additional funding covers for example start-up costs for PIs moving to Switzerland as a consequence of receiving the ERC grant, purchase of major equipment, access to large facilities, other major experimental and field work costs including personnel costs. \r\nNew proposal format
\r\nThe Extended Synopsis and the Scientific Proposal have been rethought in terms of focus and applicants are now requested to submit Part I of the Scientific Proposal (setting out the background, the objectives, and the overall research strategy) and Part II of the Scientific Proposal focusing primarily on the implementation). The evaluation elements have also been adapted to reflect the abovementioned changes. See ERC work programme 2026
