\r\nToday's AI landscape can feel technologically inevitable: large models are used for everything, trained on everything, and trusted beyond what they can justify. In this talk, I will suggest that theoretical computer science offers a way to design and build alternatives. Drawing on work on Self-Proving Models and on research with the Cetacean Translation Initiative (Project CETI), I will describe how theory can help turn ideas such as verification and respect for the object of study into well-defined research questions.

The talk aims to clarify the specific contribution of ethics review in supporting responsible and reflective AI enabled research.

This workshop will introduce participants to the open-source Python-based viewer Napari designed for interactive visualization and analysis of large, multidimensional scientific data.

Napari enables real-time exploration and navigation of a wide range of n-dimensional, multimodal datasets (e.g 2D/3D images, time series, multichannel/hyperspectral data, as well as tracks, vectors, meshes, etc). Its plugin ecosystem and Python API make it highly extensible and well-suited for custom, reproducible analysis workflows.

Participants will learn how to use Napari to explore, annotate, and analyze data. The workshop begins with a brief introduction on basic concepts of 3D visualization, followed by an overview of the key features of the Napari viewer. We will then present how the viewer can be controlled programmatically as a Python object, then provide a short introduction to developing custom Napari plugins.

\r\nIn this presentation, Jérôme Brender (EPFL) will examine how undergraduate students learn with AI tutors in robotics and computer science courses.

\r\nAcross multiple design iterations, he investigated how features such as course-grounded retrieval (RAG), Socratic questioning, and real-time prompt feedback, and debate chatbot, shape students’ engagement, prompting behavior, and learning outcomes.

\r\nHis work focuses on how AI tutors can help students better understand course concepts and become more reflective and effective users of AI tools. \r\nIf the BRIDGE PoC grant is awarded for a start-up project, the application will also be evaluated for Sciencepreneur status at EPFL.

\r\nThe SNSF is organising an online event to present the Postdoc.Mobility fellowships on 12 May 2025, from 10:00 to 11:30 (Swiss time). The presentation of the funding scheme will be followed by a Q&A session. Interested persons can register now via this link.

\r\nThe fellowship covers:\r\n

\r\nIn addition, fellowship holders can apply for a return grant (3-12 months) to finance their initial period of research after returning to Switzerland.
\r\nThe return grant includes:\r\n\r\nConditions:
\r\n- Eligibility window: application possible as early as 9 months before PhD defense, up to 3 years after PhD defense (net academic age)
\r\n- Nationality: call open to Swiss nationals and to holders of valid Swiss permanent residence, residence or cross-border commuter permit, married to a Swiss national or co-habiting with a Swiss national in a registered partnership. In addition, foreign nationals must have at least 2 years research activity at a Swiss research institution.
\r\n- !! Online application: mySNF account to be requested well ahead of the deadline-
\r\n- Start of funded projects: from 01 February 2026
\r\n- A Postdoc.Mobility application may only be submitted for a duration of support for which no other funding has been obtained for the planned project from the SNSF or third parties and no other career grants of the SNSF have been applied for.
