In C. elegans, a compact nervous system enables brain-wide imaging in behaving animals exposed to controlled olfactory environments, and undulatory locomotion reduces navigation to transitions among forward runs, reversals, and turns. Here, we used brain-wide tracking microscopy to record neural activity in freely crawling worms navigating spatial odor gradients or isotropic environments, and in immobilized worms responding to temporal odor pulses. Across conditions, we identified strongly correlated brain-wide activity patterns spanning olfactory sensory neurons, interneurons, and premotor neurons. Motor-state transitions and brain-wide correlation structure differed between freely moving and immobilized animals, demonstrating that olfactory sensory representations depend jointly on sensory input, motor activity, and behavioral context. Dyson Professor of Pediatric Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a Professor of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School, an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and the Associate Director for Basic Science at the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center.  He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Chicago.  During medical school, he did research at the Rockefeller University.  His postdoctoral fellowship was at the Whitehead Institute/Massachusetts Institute of Technology.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe Pellman Lab works on the mechanism of cell division and how certain cell division errors drive rapid genome evolution.  His research has contributed to the understanding of cell division, the origin of cell division errors in cancer, how cell division errors drive genetic instability and the mechanisms driving rapid evolution of cancer genomes. Seed Projects – “Test the impossible”</strong>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Feasibility / pilot studies exploring very high‑risk, radically new ideas</li>\r\n\t<li>Interdisciplinary combinations of fields that rarely work together</li>\r\n\t<li>Must generate initial empirical data</li>\r\n\t<li>Funding: CHF 50,000–100,000</li>\r\n\t<li>Duration: up to 1 year</li>\r\n</ul>\r\n<strong>B. Research Projects – “Deliver the breakthrough”</strong>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Full interdisciplinary research studies</li>\r\n\t<li>No need to apply for seed first</li>\r\n\t<li>Funding: CHF 100,000–300,000</li>\r\n\t<li>Duration: up to 4 years</li>\r\n</ul>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Who can apply:</strong>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>The <strong>Principal Investigator (PI)</strong> must be a <strong>permanent employee </strong>(professor, group leader) of a university or a permanent research organisation</li>\r\n\t<li>Co‑PIs is/are key personnel who is/are essential to the project and will be involved in the project management,  may be non‑permanent employees</li>\r\n\t<li>Up to <strong>3 co‑PIs</strong></li>\r\n\t<li>Collaborators are persons you are consulting with.
