\r\nThe program will fund its fourth annual cohort and seeks bold, rigorous, collaborative, and catalytic projects that broaden foundational knowledge of FTD and spur diagnostic and therapeutic advances. Responsive topics include basic biology; computational, AI, and data-driven approaches; biomarker discovery and validation; neuroimaging; proteinopathies; neuroinflammation and non-neuronal cells; environmental factors; novel risk factors and disease pathways; and innovative experimental models. Investigators from outside traditional FTD research fields are encouraged to apply, provided the team includes sufficient expertise in FTD biology.

\r\nFunding: up to $500,000
\r\n
\r\nEligibility: Applicants can be based at eligible nonprofit academic or research institutions worldwide, including public or private universities and related research institutions; certain governmental agencies with active biomedical research programs may also apply. The PI must hold a PhD, MD, or related research doctorate and be an independent investigator as defined by the host institution. Early-career and newly independent investigators are strongly encouraged. Multidisciplinary collaborations are welcome, but one corresponding PI and one submitting institution must be designated. Institutions may submit multiple proposals, provided each is led by a different PI. Current Kissick Family Foundation FTD grantees may not apply as PIs or co-investigators.
\r\n
\r\nHow to Apply: Applicants must first submit a letter of intent through the SPARC online grant portal. LOIs can be maximum 750 words and should include the project title and PI name, indicate the scientific priority area, and present a succinct description of the proposed research approach. LOIs must be single-spaced, use a legible font of at least 11 points, and have one-inch margins.. Projects that are in scope and that propose rigorous, innovative research studies with significant potential to further our understanding of sporadic FTD may be invited to submit a full proposal; notifications will be sent around mid-December. Full proposals would be due in February and require an institutional letter of commitment; for this letter, please contact the Research Office. Eventual awardees may be notified as early as June 2027.

\r\nEligibility: The call is open to researchers in Switzerland aiming to study abroad, or to researchers from abroad aiming to pursue their academic career in Switzerland. Applicants must have a research doctorate (Ph.D.) or a doctoral degree in medicine (MD) and must have at least one lead author article published or accepted for publication. Project proposed by the applicant should be endorsed by a senior investigator of the host University or Hospital.

\r\nFunding and duration:

\r\nThe fellowship is granted for a maximum period of two years, and it covers a contribution to the salary of approx. 50% (EPFL salary scales apply). The remaining part of the salary is covered by the EPFL host laboratories.  A maximum amount of CHF 5’000 per fellowship year can be granted for research costs, open research data costs, open access publication costs, travels and conferences.

\r\nThe 2027 CLIP theme is Primary and Secondary Cancer Prevention and Interception. This multi-investigator team science project aims to bridge the gap between basic mechanistic discovery and clinical application of innovative immune prevention or interception of primary cancer development and cancer recurrence after successful primary cancer treatment. Topics of interest include:\r\n

  1. Identification and validation of novel biological mechanisms driving early tumorigenesis and the progression of pre-malignant lesions for facilitating the development of targeted immune prevention therapies for both primary and secondary prevention.

Integrating robust preclinical models with high-dimensional analysis of human tissue samples — including longitudinal samples from high-risk cohorts and pre-cancerous lesions or treated primary tumors — to elucidate key inflammatory pathways influencing antitumor immune responses, the role of the microenvironment, and mechanisms of immune evasion in early-stage disease.

\r\nFunding: up to $1,000,000

\r\nEligibility: Candidates for a CRI CLIP Grant must hold a faculty appointment as a tenure-track assistant professor (or higher rank) at the time of award activation. CRI has no citizenship restrictions, and research supported by the award may be conducted at medical schools and research centers in the United States or abroad. Because CLIP is intended to support team-based translational research, proposals should bring together complementary scientific and clinical expertise. One PI should be designated as the Lead PI, with the others acting as Co-investigators.

\r\nHow to Apply: The process for applying for a CLIP Grant consists of two parts: a Letter of Intent, and, if invited, a full application. Letters of intent and associated supporting documents must be submitted electronically through a special submission portal.

\r\nEligibility: Applicants may be based anywhere in the world, must hold a PhD (or equivalent) and must hold a full-time position at an institution of higher education or research as a principal investigator. At institutions with a tenure-track system (like EPFL), applicants are expected to hold a tenure-track position. Applicants must have started their first PI position no earlier than July 1, 2022 and no later than December 31, 2026.

The Holcim Stiftung offers grants to outstanding young scientists to carry out excellent research (fundamental, applied, PoC and/or market-oriented) and scientific teaching in any discipline and field in Switzerland in view of acquiring a lecturer grade qualification or similar.

\r\nPriority is given to projects:\r\n

\r\nWho can apply (all following conditions must be filled). The applicant must:\r\n\r\n\r\nFunding & Duration:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

  1. the financing of regular studies, an additional course of study, a dissertation or a postdoc posting
    2. \r\n\t
  2. projects solely for the pursuit of training in a new area (as opposed to further training in a field already established as a specialism of the candidate)

  3. attendance at congresses, symposia, etc.
    4. \r\n\t
  4. pure publication projects (printing costs)

  5. cost of material

  6. Salaries for project members

\r\n\r\n\r\nYou can submit parallel requests for funding for your salary, but you must inform the Foundation at the proposal stage (online application form) and if you receive other positive decisions.

\r\nNote: The Foundation’s annual budget is CHF 500’000 (only 4-5 stipends are awarded per year).
