SWEET (Swiss Energy Research for the Energy Transition) is a funding programme of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) that supports research and innovation projects contributing to Switzerland’s Energy Strategy 2050 and climate objectives through several funding instruments, including SWEET, SWEETER, and SOUR, the latter focusing on unconventional and potentially transformative approaches.
\r\n \r\n\r\n
The second SOUR call focuses on ensuring a secure and affordable energy supply during Switzerland’s transition to a net-zero energy system. The call is led by Prof. emeritus Marco Mazzotti, who oversees project evaluation, monitoring, and funding decisions, with support from SFOE experts. If milestones are not met, he may terminate projects and reallocate any funds that become available.
\r\n
\r\nThe guiding theme of the call is “Supply Security on the Path to a Net-Zero Energy System.” It seeks high-risk, high-potential “game-changing” technologies that could substantially improve Switzerland’s energy security while advancing the transition to net-zero, e.g., by increasing renewable production, enabling better integration into the energy system, or reducing energy consumption. 
\r\n
\r\nThe key idea is not incremental improvement: projects should aim for a major technological leap, starting around TRL 3–4 and reaching at least TRL 6, with commercialisation considered from the outset. In other words, SOUR is looking for unconventional technologies that could fundamentally shift the cost/performance frontier and eventually achieve significant market deployment in Switzerland.
\r\n
\r\nFunding duration: The total funding for this call is CHF 4 Mio., with which at most 4 projects will be supported. Each project may apply for up to CHF 1.33 million over a maximum period of three years. The start of the projects is planned for April 2027.
\r\n
\r\nApplications: Applications for SOUR funding proceed through a single proposal and require the formation of a team, a work programme, and a budget.
\r\n
\r\nProject Team: A team is led by one Principal Investigator (PI) and may contain one or more Co-PIs. Because SOUR funding is intended for small teams, the team size should be conducive to producing a major leap and enters into the evaluation. The PI and Co-PIs must be employees of a Swiss institution of higher education, a Swiss private sector company, or a Swiss non-commercial research organisation.

\r\nThe 2027 CLIP theme is Primary and Secondary Cancer Prevention and Interception. This multi-investigator team science project aims to bridge the gap between basic mechanistic discovery and clinical application of innovative immune prevention or interception of primary cancer development and cancer recurrence after successful primary cancer treatment. Topics of interest include:\r\n

  1. Identification and validation of novel biological mechanisms driving early tumorigenesis and the progression of pre-malignant lesions for facilitating the development of targeted immune prevention therapies for both primary and secondary prevention.

Integrating robust preclinical models with high-dimensional analysis of human tissue samples — including longitudinal samples from high-risk cohorts and pre-cancerous lesions or treated primary tumors — to elucidate key inflammatory pathways influencing antitumor immune responses, the role of the microenvironment, and mechanisms of immune evasion in early-stage disease.

\r\nEligibility: Candidates for a CRI CLIP Grant must hold a faculty appointment as a tenure-track assistant professor (or higher rank) at the time of award activation. CRI has no citizenship restrictions, and research supported by the award may be conducted at medical schools and research centers in the United States or abroad. Because CLIP is intended to support team-based translational research, proposals should bring together complementary scientific and clinical expertise. One PI should be designated as the Lead PI, with the others acting as Co-investigators.

The European Partnership FOREST (FOrests, forestry, and the forest-based sector: REsearch and innovation for a Sustainable Transition) has launched its first Joint Call for transnational research and innovation projects. The SNSF is joining this initiative to support research and innovation towards a sustainable forest bioeconomy, focusing on forest resilience, sustainable management and innovative forest-based products and value chains.

\r\nEinführung in die Programmierlogik mit der Konzeption von Animationen, Spielen und vieles mehr! Codieren ist wie eine neue Sprache lernen. Worte zu kennen bedeutet nicht unbedingt, die Sprache zu beherrschen. Man muss die Worte auch in der richtigen Reihenfolge platzieren können. Bei diesem Workshop lernt ihr Scratch, eine vereinfachte Programmiersprache, die sich in der Form von Blöcken präsentiert, die man richtig zusammenstellen muss.

\r\nSafely exploring environments with a-priori unknown constraints is a fundamental challenge that restricts the autonomy of robots. While safety is paramount, guarantees on sufficient exploration are also crucial for ensuring autonomous task completion. To address these challenges, we propose a novel safe guaranteed exploration framework using optimal control, which achieves first-of-its-kind results: guaranteed exploration for non-linear systems with finite time sample complexity bounds, while being provably safe with arbitrarily high probability. The framework is general and applicable to many real-world scenarios with complex non-linear dynamics and unknown domains. For efficient implementation, we exploit goal-directed exploration, and receding-horizon replanning while preserving the framework’s guarantees, and demonstrate safe, efficient exploration in challenging unknown environments using a car model.

\r\nBiography: 
\r\nManish Prajapat earned his Ph.D. in reinforcement learning and control from ETH Zurich in May 2026. He was a Doctoral Fellow at the ETH AI Center working with Prof. Melanie Zeilinger and Prof. Andreas Krause. Previously, he earned his master’s degree in Robotics, Systems, and Control from ETH Zurich and was a visiting scholar at Caltech. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in 2017. At IIT Madras, he was honored as the Best Graduating Student (Co-curricular) in 2017 and received the Sivasailam Merit Prize for the best thesis. His research interests are sequential decision-making under complex scenarios, e.g., non-Markovian objectives, unknown constraints or unknown dynamics of non-linear systems.
