Current research indicates that the role of generative AI in education is a double-edged sword: on one hand it can assist teachers for designing effective learning tasks and resources, on the other hand it can have negative effects on student learning and raises a range of ethical questions.
\r\nIn our new workshop series “Responsible AI skills for education” we will try to navigate these questions by focusing on specific teaching and learning activities and identifying practical skills you can develop for your everyday practice. Through a blend of concise theoretical input and hands-on activities, we will explore both the benefits and the risks of generative AI in education in short 1-hour sessions on campus. The first two workshops in the series focus on quiz design and critical analysis skills.

\r\nTeaching critical analysis:
\r\nIn this 1-hour workshop, we will focus on how to help students develop critical analysis skills for reviewing LLM outputs in the context of learning tasks. The workshop will combine theoretical inputs and hands-on activities, drawing on your disciplinary expertise and fact-checking strategies.

\r\nThe Research Computing Platform (RCP) offers campus-wide IT infrastructure geared for the research community. The offering includes a GPU infrastructure (> 400) aiming at making AI compute as accessible as possible throughout the campus.

The EPFL Photonics Chapter is happy to invite you for a summer hike in the beautiful region of Leysin!
\r\nThe hike is planned to take place on Sunday June 14th 2026.
\r\nWe hope to give you a chance to meet and chat with your Photonics colleagues working across many different departments.
\r\nFor organizational purposes, please register for the event using this form before June 11h, 2026.

\r\nThe travel costs starting from EPFL will be fully covered by the chapter, for those who have registered.
\r\nNote that if you register but eventually do not come*, we might ask you to reimburse the train ticket.

\r\nThe planned route will take us around the peak of Le Riondaz, offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
\r\nThe hike is of moderate difficulty, with a few steeper sections along the way. However, the goal is for everyone to enjoy the day together, so we will keep a comfortable pace and make sure no one is left behind.
\r\nFurther details about the itinerary will be announced before the hike.
