Target ALS funds investigators who collaborate across scientific disciplines and research constituencies to drive medical breakthroughs for the treatment of ALS.
\r\n
\r\nAs new therapeutics have begun moving the needle for ALS patients, tracking disease progression and monitoring the effects of drug treatment have become even more important. Biomarkers are needed to stratify patient populations, understand response to therapeutics, and quantify disease progression. I'll discuss our AI for Science program, share examples of how researchers are using Claude across domains from molecular biology to materials science, and outline our thinking on what makes AI genuinely useful for working scientists. I'll also touch on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and how it enables integration with scientific tools and data sources.
\r\n
\r\nBio
\r\nJonah Cool leads life sciences partnerships and deployment at Anthropic, where he works directly with researchers, academic institutions, and biotech startups to apply frontier AI to scientific discovery. His focus is on understanding where large language models can meaningfully accelerate biological research and building the partnerships, evaluation frameworks, and deployment practices to make that happen responsibly.
\r\n
\r\nBefore Anthropic, Jonah served as VP of Science & Partnerships at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, where he launched the Single Cell Biology program and led cross-sector technology development spanning biotech, academia, and philanthropy. He holds a PhD in cell biology (AHA fellow) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Salk Institute (NIH fellow). His career has moved across academia, biotech startups, large-scale philanthropy, and now frontier AI, connected by a consistent focus on finding the leverage points where new technology can change how science gets done.
","image_description":"","creation_date":"2026-04-10T10:19:48","last_modification_date":"2026-04-10T10:34:58","link_label":"Registration required (epfl.ch email address only)","link_url":"https://forms.office.com/e/F0PALJFN3D","canceled":"False","cancel_reason":"","place_and_room":"SV 1717","url_place_and_room":"https://plan.epfl.ch/?room==SV%201717","url_online_room":"","spoken_languages":["https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/spoken_languages/2/?format=json"],"speaker":"Jonah Cool, PhD","organizer":"EPFL AI Center, EPFL AIMM Lab","contact":"Nicolas Machado","is_internal":"True","theme":"","vulgarization":{"id":2,"fr_label":"Public averti","en_label":"Informed public"},"registration":{"id":1,"fr_label":"Sur inscription","en_label":"Registration required"},"keywords":"","file":null,"icalendar_url":"https://memento.epfl.ch/event/export/120338/","category":{"id":1,"code":"CONF","fr_label":"Conférences - Séminaires","en_label":"Conferences - Seminars","activated":true},"academic_calendar_category":null,"domains":[],"mementos":["https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/416/?format=json"]},{"id":71569,"title":"Call for Challenges 2026 \"Future by Design: The New Codes of Luxury, Sportswear and Wellbeing\"","slug":"call-for-challenges-2026-future-by-design-the-new","event_url":"https://memento.epfl.ch/event/call-for-challenges-2026-future-by-design-the-new","visual_url":"https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32905/200x112.jpg","visual_large_url":"https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32905/720x405.jpg","visual_maxsize_url":"https://memento.epfl.ch/image/32905/max-size.jpg","lang":"en","start_date":"2026-09-24","end_date":"2026-09-24","start_time":"11:00:00","end_time":"12:00:00","description":"
The Innovation Booster Fashion & Lifestyle empowers operational, technological, and social innovations developed with and for the Swiss Fashion and Lifestyle sector.
\r\nLeveraging the Leading House community and network, the Innovation Booster Fashion & Lifestyle creates a unique ecosystem enabling the dissemination of radical solutions to the challenges of the sector.\r\n

\r\nImportant dates\r\n\r\n
\r\n\t
Call Opening: April 29th, 2026 (you can register for the webinar to get all information needed - registere here)
\r\n\t
Call Closing: September 24th, 2026
\r\n\t
Co-Creation Workshop: October 13th, 2026 (will take place at EPFL)
\r\n\t
Pitch Day: November 26th - (will take place at EPFL)
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nThe Innovation Booster Fashion & Lifestyle invites companies, researchers, startups, experts, and innovators to submit sector-relevant challenges that can inspire the co-creation of radical ideas for the Swiss Fashion & Lifestyle ecosystem.
