Yet the work involved in developing, maintaining, documenting, and sustaining research software communities often remains difficult to see, measure, and value within research institutions.

\r\nOpenPulse is an open research data platform developed by EPFL Open Science in collaboration with the Swiss Data Science Center. It aims to make research software communities and their contributions more visible and valued through meaningful indicators related to activity, collaboration, maintenance, and community engagement around software.
\r\n
\r\nAt the first OpenPulse event in November 2025, participants helped us think through what such a platform could make possible. Through a hands-on sprint, they prototyped ideas around open hardware, reproducible machine learning, open education, data visualization, and open-source policy and governance.
\r\n
\r\nNow, OpenPulse is ready for its community rollout.
\r\n
\r\nThis follow-up workshop invites the community to try out the dashboards, examine research software projects through a first set of CHAOSS-inspired indicators, share feedback, and discuss what we can learn from looking at research software through the lens of community engagement.
\r\n
\r\nWe welcome researchers, software developers, research software engineers, data scientists, research administrators, IT and library professionals, and anyone interested in how research software communities are built, maintained, evaluated, and supported. No coding experience is required. Technical, conceptual, strategic, and community perspectives are equally welcome.
\r\n

\r\nThe diversity and prolific number of planets discovered have revolutionised our conception of the nature and history of planet formation. They have opened up the idea of the possible rarity of planetary systems similar to our own, but also exciting prospects for the potential to probe the atmospheres of planets in search of traces of life. We are living in a historic moment that brings us closer to exploring life in the universe and understanding the origins of life on Earth.
\r\nThe talk will present an outlook of this landscape and will discuss the implications of these recent findings. New insights about the origins of life will be presented in the light of recent experiments about a possible origin of pre-biotic chemical building blocks as well as a possible long-range pathway for detecting Earth-like systems amenable for remote study of life.

Applications are open for Business Concept, the entrepreneurship training program delivered in collaboration with Venturelab. This semester‑long course offers weekly evening sessions on campus, led by experienced entrepreneurs. Participants learn how to structure, test, and develop a startup project, whether based on their own idea or by joining a team.

\r\nProgram journey\r\n\r\n\r\nWhat you'll walk away with\r\n\r\n\r\nA hands-on, weekly rythm. The program runs over 10 weeks, with one evening session per week.
