Pickering emulsions (PEs) have emerged as attractive platforms for the fabrication of porous and other novel functional materials. In this talk, I will first discuss strategies that can be exploited to drive particles to the interface. Thereafter, rules for the designing Pickering emulsions and their printability will be discussed. In particular, we will focus on hetero-aggregation-driven particle adsorption to fluid interfaces, which is crucial for to ensure stability of Pickering emulsions. By controlling particle interactions through parameters such as pH and particle concentration, the microstructure and rheological properties of PEs can be tailored to achieve excellent printability and shape retention during direct ink writing. Thereafter, printable PEs are used to fabricate three-dimensional architectures that are subsequently dried and sintered to obtain hierarchically porous ceramics. The resulting porous structures are characterized in terms of their microstructure, pore size, and porosity. As a demonstration, the porous ceramics are employed as supports for gold nanoparticles and evaluated in the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol. The proposed approach provides a simple, scalable, and versatile framework for designing 3D-printable Pickering emulsions and developing functional porous materials for diverse applications.

\r\nThis one-day event brings together MRI experts from across the Lemanic region and provides a platform to review ongoing MRI projects, share experiences and challenges, and foster collaboration among physicists, physicians, and neuroscientists.
This one-day symposium brings together leading researchers in the field of creative thinking to explore how creativity emerges, develops, and can be nurtured through education.
\r\nCo-organized by the CIBM MRI EPFL Section and HEP Vaud, the symposium is designed to support and inspire the ongoing TESSERACT research initiative, which aims to advance a holistic understanding of child development, learning, and creativity.
\r\nAttendance is available both onsite (limited to 40 places!) and online. Participants can choose between several registration options: full-day attendance with lunch, morning sessions only, afternoon sessions only, or online participation.

A summer school taking place this September will bring together EPFL and ETH Zurich PhD students to explore how uncertainty can become a productive resource in design and fabrication through a hands-on construction robotics challenge.

\r\nThe program combines lectures in architecture, robotics, and work psychology with the full-scale construction of a timber structure from irregular timber stock, using an ABB industrial robot in a human-robot fabrication workflow.

Current research indicates that the role of generative AI in education is a double-edged sword: on one hand it can assist teachers for designing effective learning tasks and resources, on the other hand it can have negative effects on student learning and raises a range of ethical questions.
\r\nIn our new workshop series “Responsible AI skills for education” we will try to navigate these questions by focusing on specific teaching and learning activities and identifying practical skills you can develop for your everyday practice. Through a blend of concise theoretical input and hands-on activities, we will explore both the benefits and the risks of generative AI in education in short 1-hour sessions on campus. The first two workshops in the series focus on quiz design and critical analysis skills.

\r\nIn this 1-hour workshop, we will focus on how to help students develop critical analysis skills for reviewing LLM outputs in the context of learning tasks. The workshop will combine theoretical inputs and hands-on activities, drawing on your disciplinary expertise and fact-checking strategies.

This two-week programme will be held from 06 to 17 July 2026 at the Bernoulli Center.

\r\nThe first week features a series of lecture courses primarily aimed at early-career researchers. The second week is a research conference.

\r\nA central theme of the meeting is Functorial Quantum Field Theories beyond TQFTs and the Segal-Stolz–Teichner programme.

\r\nThe event will highlight recent developments in extended functorial field theories; analytic structures in quantum field theory, including higher categorical analogues of von Neumann algebras and Hilbert spaces; categorified geometric structures, such as higher vector bundles and stringor bundles; and, supersymmetry and its role in generalized cohomology theories.

\r\nThe workshop and conference hope to provide an opportunity to advance the interface between homotopy theory, operator algebras, and quantum field theory.
