\r\nI first review how these rate-independent theories can be formulated as energy minimisation problems and discuss their main properties and limitations. I then introduce a regularised fracture model, akin to the phase-field regularisation used for softening plasticity, that we recently proposed in [1]. Unlike standard gradient damage or phase-field fracture models, in this approach damage affects the material strength rather than its stiffness.
\r\n
\r\nThrough analytical and numerical examples, I show how this model, within a consistent variational framework, provides a path toward reconciling several key concepts developed over the centuries, including Griffith and cohesive crack models, damage mechanics, plasticity, strength criteria, and limit analysis.

\r\nMore precisely it is to measure displacement fields between two states, with the objective of either:

\r\nThis texture tracking method is known under many names (it implements optical flow, it's also known as PIV, cross-correlation, ...) and is a standard technique in many domains such as non-destructive testing.

While research funders and publishers mandate the dissemination of data and code underlying the published results, little guidance is provided on how to do it.

\r\nThis workshop addresses the selection of suitable data repositories, explores the role of data journals, and examines data publishing beyond the basic requirements of funders. The session includes a hands-on demonstration of Zenodo, the preferred data repository among EPFL researchers. We will also explore how Zenodo integrates with GitHub repositories, ensuring all necessary publishing metadata is available to disseminate your academic work. Additionally, we will cover the appropriate licensing for your datasets and address data anonymization concerns.

\r\nAt the end of this workshop, which will be held in presence only, you will be able to:\r\n\r\nWhile not mandatory, basic knowledge of Research Data Management is recommended: for an introductory training, please register for the workshop ABC of Research Data Management.

Throughout the week, a series of lectures will provide you with the essential concepts in image analysis – from the nature of digital images through the physics of image acquisition to the basics of deep learning, and more. In addition to these lectures, you will learn to use some popular image-analysis software during practical sessions.

\r\nHow can AI tutors be designed to support learning rather than shortcutting it?
\r\n
\r\nIn this presentation, Jérôme Brender (EPFL) will examine how undergraduate students learn with AI tutors in robotics and computer science courses.
\r\n
\r\nAcross multiple design iterations, he investigated how features such as course-grounded retrieval (RAG), Socratic questioning, and real-time prompt feedback, and debate chatbot, shape students’ engagement, prompting behavior, and learning outcomes.
\r\n
\r\nHis work focuses on how AI tutors can help students better understand course concepts and become more reflective and effective users of AI tools. This workshop will introduce participants to the open-source Python-based viewer Napari designed for interactive visualization and analysis of large, multidimensional scientific data.

Napari enables real-time exploration and navigation of a wide range of n-dimensional, multimodal datasets (e.g 2D/3D images, time series, multichannel/hyperspectral data, as well as tracks, vectors, meshes, etc). Its plugin ecosystem and Python API make it highly extensible and well-suited for custom, reproducible analysis workflows.

Participants will learn how to use Napari to explore, annotate, and analyze data. The workshop begins with a brief introduction on basic concepts of 3D visualization, followed by an overview of the key features of the Napari viewer. We will then present how the viewer can be controlled programmatically as a Python object, then provide a short introduction to developing custom Napari plugins.
