DESCRIPTION:Prof. Morgan Huse\, Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center (M
 SKCC)\, New York City\, NY (USA)\nWEEKLY EPFL BIOE TALKS SERIES\n\nAbout t
he speaker and the talk:\nDr. Huse spent much of his childhood in East Asi
a before completing high school in Los Angeles. After graduating from Harv
ard University with a degree in Biochemical Sciences\, he carried out doct
oral work at the Rockefeller University\, where he studied with John Kuriy
an\, Tom Muir\, and Joan Massagué.  His thesis research focused on the p
hosphoregulation of the type I TGFβ receptor. After receiving his Ph.D.\,
Dr. Huse worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Marc Davis’ lab at Stanford
University\, where he studied signal transduction and polarized effector
responses in T cells. He took a position as assistant member in the Memori
al Sloane Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) Immunology Program in 2007. Sinc
e then\, his lab has focused on the structure and function of immune cell-
cell interactions\, particularly on how cytotoxic T lymphocytes and natura
l killer cells destroy malignant cancer cells. His work has touched upon k
ey signaling pathways required for the elaboration of specific interfacial
structures and the importance of mechanical force as an avenue for commun
ication between immune cells. Today’s seminar will describe two ways in
which the mechanical properties of the cytotoxic immune synapse control it
s function.\n\n\nZoom link (with one-time registration for the whole serie
 s) for attending remotely: https://go.epfl.ch/EPFLBioETalks\n\nIMPORTANT N
OTICE:\nThis seminar can be followed via Zoom web-streaming only\, (follow
ing prior one-time registration through the link above).\n\n\n\nInstructio
ns for 1st-year Ph.D. students who are under EDBB’s mandatory seminar at
tendance rule:\nPlease make sure to\n\n	send D. Reinhard a note before noo
n on seminar day\, informing that you plan to attend the talk online\, and
\n	be signed in on Zoom with a recognizable user name (not a pseudonym mak
ing it difficult or impossible to be identified).\n
