DESCRIPTION:The CLIMACT seminar series “How to move forward and act on
  climate change” is an interactive online event. It takes place twice a
  month\, every second Monday during your lunch break\, with two new speake
 rs. Each episode aims to strengthen the dialogue and collaboration between
  key UNIL and EPFL scientists\, swiss politicians\, entrepreneurs and vari
 ous actors from the civil society\, through collective reflection. A wide 
 range of climate change-related topics will be discussed\, integrating per
 spectives from all sectors and academic disciplines in order to generate n
 ew leads and initiatives towards systemic solutions. Participants are welc
 ome to take part in the discussion in English or French.\n \n\nL’énerg

 ion énergétique\, EPFL\n \n\n\n\nDe nombreux pays se sont engagés à l
 a neutralité carbone à l’horizon 2050. Pour atteindre cet objectif\, d
 ifférents types de mesures sont prises\, parmi lesquelles figurent la fis
 calité environnementale\, dont la taxe sur le CO2 est un exemple. Un autr
 e exemple est la défiscalisation partielle des biocarburants sous la cont
 rainte d’un bilan favorable au regard du développement durable. Les sub
 ventions sont un troisième exemple. L’urgence climatique exige de gén
 éraliser et d’intensifier certains types d’incitations chaque fois qu
 e le choix est possible entre deux produits. \nMais quels types d’incit
 ations faudrait-il prioriser ? Et si la mise en place d’une « fiscali
 té environnementale » sous des conditions socialement distributives ét
 ait une des options radicales à la mesure des enjeux d’une urgence clim
 atique prégnante ? Cela exige cependant de revisiter le paradigme actuel
  du développement durable qui repose sur les trois domaines autonomes mai
 s interdépendants que sont l’environnement\, la société/le social\, e
 t l’économie.\nDans cette présentation\, le Professeur Gnansounou nous
  introduira à un autre paradigme du développement durable\, où l’éco
 nomie est incluse dans le social qui à son tour est un sous-ensemble de l
 ’environnement. \n \n\n\n\nA sustainability diet for global social met

 ustainability crises such as climate heating and biodiversity loss are dri
 ven by rising societal use of biophysical resources such as energy and mat
 erials\, i.e. with social metabolism. The mass of human-made material stoc
 ks worldwide\, mostly buildings and infrastructures\, now equals that of a
 ll living organisms on planet earth. Building up the material stocks that 
 underpin services required for social wellbeing consumes an increasing sha
 re of humanity’s surging material input. A transformation towards sustai
 nability will require fundamental reshaping of the ‘stock-flow-service
 ’ nexus between accumulation of stocks\, flows of materials and energy a
 nd the ensuing wastes and emissions\, and the wellbeing-contributions deri
 ved from social metabolism.\n
