DESCRIPTION:Dominique Ferrandon\nDrosophila melanogaster is a potent genet
ic model to investigate host defenses against infections and to decipher m
echanisms of innate immunity. The current paradigm is that upon the sensin
g of infectious microbes present in the internal body cavity of the fly\,
the NF-kB-type signal transduction pathways Toll and Immune deficiency are
activated in the fat body and lead to the release in the hemolymph of mul
tiple secreted peptides\, many of which have been shown to act as antimicr
obial peptides.\nWe are interested in the study of fungal infections in th
 is model\, which are controlled\, to a large extent\, by Toll-regulated im
mune processes. Our work leads us to reconsider our current understanding
of the host response to systemic infections by ascribing unexpected functi
ons for several effectors of the Toll pathway\, thereby opening novel venu
es for investigating immune defenses against microbial infections.\n\n-> A
