CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Velux Stiftung was founded in 1980 by Villum Kann Rasmussen\,
a Danish engineer. He developed a novel window construction that could be
installed in sloping roofs\, which he named “VELUX” (“Ve” for vent
ilation\, and “Lux” for light).\n\nThe Velux Stiftung supports basic a
nd applied research in the fields of:\n\n	daylight\n	healthy ageing\n	opht
halmology\n\nNew thematic focus in the ophthalmology funding area (all det
ails here):\n\n\n	Interdisciplinary biomedical research projects in ophtha
lmology aiming to develop and assess new diagnostic\, prevention\, or trea
tment methods for eye diseases adapted to the local context and environmen
t of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).\n	Institutional research ca
pacity building projects: projects aiming at sustainably building\, develo
ping\, or reinforcing institutional structures enabling biomedical ophthal
 mology research.\n\n\nProjects should:\n\n	stem from innovative\, out-of-t
he-box ideas\,\n	be relevant beyond the borders of a single discipline\,\n
accelerate research by removing bottlenecks\,\n	enable implementation of
research and\n	promote and/or implement their results inside and outside a
cademia.\n\nExcellent research projects outside the strategic funding area
s above but within the foundation’s legal purpose are not funded or sent
to peer-review. Please note that the Foundation does not fund research pr
ojects where the main focus lies in health systems / services research\, i
mplementation research / intervention science\, health economics or commun
ity development. Project applications which have been previously rejected
are not allowed for resubmission.\nThe foundation welcomes international a
nd interdisciplinary collaborations.\n\nThe project application needs to e
stablish a convincing argumentation why no sufficient alternative support
can be obtained.\n\nWho can apply\n\n\n	Both individual researchers and re
search groups can apply.\n	The main applicant (e.g. professor\, group lead
er) must be a permanent employee of a university or other permanent resear
ch entity anywhere in the world.\n	Non-permanent employees are welcome to
apply as co-applicants.\n	For Ophthalmology projects: applicants are invit
ed to apply in consortia of research groups with at least one partner base
 d in a LMIC.\n\n\nDuration: 1-4 years\n\nFunding: approx. CHF 50-100’000
per year covering\n\n\n	Research staff costs (personnel costs\, doctoral
students\, teaching replacement).\n	Associated research costs (e.g. consum
 ables\, conference\, travel\, publication).\n	Equipment costs may be inclu
ded if duly justified.\n	Does NOT cover overheads nor social insurances.\n
For Ophthalmology projects: up to CHF 100’000 per year with at least 50
 % to be used in LMICs.\n\n\nDeadlines: \n\n\n	30 April & 30 September 2022
  for Daylight Research applications\n	30 April & 30 September 2022 for Hea
 lthy Ageing applications\n	30 May 2022 for Ophthalmology applications\n\n\
n\nSubmission procedure\n\n\n	Submit the research proposal\, the detailed
budget the Data Protection Policy consent of each co-PI and CVs through th
e online submission portal (link will be available here). Please check the
application factsheet for more details.\n	If you are unsure about the fit
of your project idea to the scope of the call\, please send an abstract a
t info@veluxstiftung.ch.\n\n\nStart of the project: within 6 months from t
he decision.\n\n\nFor more information\, please have a look at the call we
bpage\, EPFL Toolkit (including a Budget Calculator)\, application guideli
nes\, and granted projects in Daylight Research\, Healthy Ageing Research
 and Ophthalmology Research.\n
