 es\nHas it ever happened to you that you witnessed a situation where someb
 ody got treated unfairly and you felt bad because you did not know how to 
 react? Or did a female or minority colleague of yours complain about being
  discriminated and you did not know how to support them?\nIn this workshop
  participants will explore how they can stop being passive bystanders and 
 become active upstanders and allies in situations where others are confron
 ted with discrimination\, sexism and bias. In this workshop participants w
 ill learn that they can have a positive impact in challenging situations a
 nd leave with a toolbox of smart intervention strategies. Knowing how to s
 peak-up for others will also help you to learn to speak up for yourself wi
 th courage and confidence.\n\nThe workshop will focus on three elements: 
 \n\n	Awareness: How to recognize (subtle) discrimination and understand wh
 y it is harmful not just for the targets\, but the entire team or organiza
 tion.\n	Obstacles: Why is speaking up difficult.\n	Skills: How to listen\,
  learn and engage towards positive change of behavior without creating agg
 ression and defensiveness.\n\nApproach\nThis workshop is highly interactiv
 e. We will play a simulations game to kick off an open discussion on parti
 cipants’ own experiences. They will learn from each other and get introd
 uced to various techniques like centering or active listening\, that will 
 help them to become fearless and skillful allies for a more human workplac

 s addressed to young female academics of the next generation and for women
  professors of the universities of French-speaking Switzerland\, HES-SO an
 d EPFL. The REGARD programme is organized by the gender equality offices t
 hose institutions.  \nThe objective of the REGARD program is to develop s
 kills and offer concrete tools for career management and supervision. Thes
 e workshops also create spaces for discussion and exchange of experiences 
 among researchers. They also aim to increase awareness of gender equality 
 issues in academic careers.
