DESCRIPTION:The Novartis Research Foundation (Novartis Forschungsstiftung)
  has just launched the 2022 FreeNovation thematic call for biomedical rese
 arch projects. Up to 15 projects will be supported with maximum CHF 180’
 000 for 18 months.\n\nThe fields accepted for the 2022 call are:\n\n	Regul
 ation of mitochondrial function\n	Pre-symptomatic detection of metabolic d
 iseases\n	Immune memory of tissues\n\n\nFor further information on the 202
 2 fields\, have a look at the “call 2022” document in the EPFL Toolkit
 .\n\nProposals must:\n\n\n	Relate to biomedical research with the ultimate
  aim to provide innovative healthcare solutions for patients.\n	Be unconve
 ntional and radical\, with the potential to open up novel research directi
 ons and aiming beyond incremental innovation and discovery.\n	Be particula
 rly original and hard to fund by conventional funding programs due to the 
 “unorthodox” character of the idea or absence of a long-standing acade
 mic reputation held by the researchers.\n	NOT include commercial activitie
 s nor be influenced by commercial interests.\n\n\nInterdisciplinary resear
 ch often has a higher chance of funding.\nResults from preliminary studies
  are NOT a prerequisite. Risk-taking is encouraged.\n\nWho can apply: \n\n
 \n	PhD or equivalent qualification\n	Employed at a reputable healthcare or
  healthcare-related organization\, incl. university\, university hospital 
 or university of applied science in Switzerland throughout the duration of
  the grant.\n	Max. 2 applicants → co-applicants may together submit a si
 ngle proposal.\n\n\nFunding & Duration: Max. CHF 180’000 for up to 18 mo
 nths\n\nDeadlines:\n\n\n	Call Deadline: 16 April 2022 -> submit your propo
 sal by 23:59 CET via FreeNovation online application portal.\n\n\nProposal
 s will be reviewed anonymously to encourage young scientists and unconvent
 ional ideas by an international review committee chaired by Prof. Gerd Fol
 kers (ETHZ) with 6 academic and 3 Novartis scientists\, who are experts in
  the field. Decisions will be communicated in mi- July 2022.\n\nFor furthe
