BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 PRODID:-//Memento EPFL// BEGIN:VEVENT SUMMARY:HFSP Research Grants | Research Funding DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20220324 DTSTAMP:20260916T054949Z UID:511c476225fc202fd5aa9f4e33ef03c6c2ea21745cb31541cdb27b3f CATEGORIES:Call for proposal DESCRIPTION:Aim:  HFSP Research Grants support innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems with emphasis placed on novel and int erdisciplinary approaches that involve scientific exchanges across nationa l and disciplinary boundaries (see guidelines).\n\nParticipation of scient ists from disciplines outside the traditional life sciences such as biophy sics\, chemistry\, computational biology\, computer science\, engineering\ , mathematics\, nanoscience or physics is recommended because such collabo rations have opened up new approaches for understanding the complex struct ures and regulatory networks that characterize living organisms\, their ev olution and interactions.\n\nResearch grants are provided for teams of sci entists from different countries who wish to combine their expertise in in novative approaches to questions that could not be answered by individual laboratories. Preliminary results are not required and applicants are expe cted to develop new lines of research through the research collaboration.\ n\nTwo types of Research Grant are available:\n\n Research Grants - Early Career: Awarded to teams of researchers all of whom direct their own resea rch groups\, are within ten years of their doctoral degree conferral date\ , and are within five years of their initial scientific independence\n Res earch Grants - Program: Awarded to teams of independent researchers at any stage of their careers.\n\n\nFunding:       max. $500’000/year\, d epending on team size\n\nDuration:      36 months\n\nEligibility:  Al l members of a Program grant team must be in a position to initiate and di rect their own independent  lines of  research. They must have full scie ntific  and financial responsibility for their own laboratories (however small). All members of an Early Career grant team must be within 5 years o f obtaining an independent position (see below) but must have obtained the ir first doctoral degree (PhD\, MD or  equivalent) not  longer  than  10 years  before  the  deadline  for  submission  of  the  letter   of  intent. A Young  Investigator should be a project leader directin g a research group. “Postdocs” are not eligible to apply for either pr ogram.\n\nOnly international research teams (with emphasis on intercontine ntal collaborations)\,  not individual researchers\, are eligible. The nu mber of team members should normally be 2 –4. HFSPO promotes new interdi sciplinary collaborations across the world. Therefore\, team members are e xpected to have  their labs in different countries\; they should not have collaborated before and must propose a project significantly different fr om their ongoing research. The international team must designate one of  its members as the Principal Applicant\, who must be located in an HFSPO m ember country (see guidelines).\n\nHow to Apply: The two-step application process begins with a Letter of Intent. The deadline for receipt of this lette r\, also submitted via ProposalCentral\, is 31 March 2022.  The Principal Applicant will be notified at the beginning of July if the team is invite d to submit a full application. The deadline for invited full applications will be mid-September 2022.
