DESCRIPTION:AIM: Small Innovative Projects are agile funding vehicles with
  two major aims: to investigate higher-risk ideas and to attract new entra
 nts into the applied solar R&D community. Projects in this FOA will focus 
 on innovative and novel ideas that are appropriate for 12-18 months of res
 earch to determine feasibility.\n\nTopic Area 1: Concentrating solar-therm
 al power (CSP). Projects in this topic area will advance novel ideas that 
 either apply new science and ideas to the sector or close a technical gap 
 or limitation in an emerging technology. Responsive concepts include all a
 spects of CSP plants with thermal energy storage\, as well as solar-therma
 l process heat innovations\, solar-thermal fuel systems\, and pumped therm
 al energy storage.\n\nTopic Area 2: Photovoltaics. Projects in this topic 
 area will focus on new and emerging areas of PV research that can produce 
 significant results within the first year of performance and\, if successf
 ul\, lay the foundation for continued research. These projects should aim 
 to significantly lower costs with a focus on improving the power conversio
 n efficiency\, fielded energy output\, reuse and recycling of system compo
 nents\, service lifetime\, and manufacturability of PV technologies.\n\nDE
 ADLINE: Letters of intent (1-2 paragraphs) are due by February 28\, 2022 a
 nd full applications are due on March 21\, 2022. \n\nELIGIBILITY: EPFL re
 searchers are eligible to participate as subawardee or as a prime if a wai
