 __________________________\n\nThe “Global Issues” course:  \nThis cou
 rse is organized by the College of Humanities and reaches all EPFL student
 s in the first year of the Bachelor program. It provides an interdisciplin
 ary perspective on six current themes: food\, climate\, communication\, en
 ergy\, mobility\, and health.\n\nEach course is taught by a pair of instru
 ctors\, including one expert in natural sciences and engineering and one e
 xpert in social and human sciences. In the second half of the semester\, t
 he students work in teams to complete a project related to the theme that 
 they have selected\, which they present through a poster. The best poster 
 from each group is recognized during this annual Grand Témoin ceremony.\n

 h Roth :\nPrior to joining Human Rights Watch in 1987\, Roth served as a f
 ederal prosecutor in New York and for the Iran-Contra investigation in Was
 hington\, DC. A graduate of Yale Law School and Brown University\, Roth ha
 s conducted numerous human rights investigations and missions around the w
 orld. He has written extensively on a wide range of human rights abuses\, 
 devoting special attention to issues of international justice\, counterter
 rorism\, the foreign policies of the major powers\, and the work of the Un
 ited Nations.\n\nHuman Rights Watch\, an international NGO for the defense
  of human rights\, which :\n\n\n	fights against the great social evils suc
 h as child labor\, torture\, genocide...\n	fights for great causes such as
  equal rights for men and women\, LGBT rights\, freedom of the press...\n\
 nIn 1997\, HRW received\, with other organizations\, the Nobel Peace Prize
  for the campaign to ban anti-personnel mines.
