CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim:  Open source software is critical to modern scientific r
esearch\, advancing biology and medicine while providing reproducibility a
nd transparency. Hundreds of software packages\, libraries\, and applicati
ons have become essential tools for research—so much so that many resear
chers could not continue their work without them. \n \nThe Chan Zuckerbe
rg Initiative (CZI) seeks letters of intent to apply for funding for softw
are projects that are essential to biomedical research\, as part of our Es
sential Open Source Software for Science (EOSS) RFA. The goal of the progr
am is to support software maintenance\, growth\, development\, and communi
ty engagement for these critical tools. This fifth RFA cycle will continue
with this approach\, while also encouraging applications from areas of pa
rticular focus relevant to CZI Science—infectious disease\, imaging\, an
 d single-cell biology. \n\nFunding:       max. $400\,000\n\nDuratio
n:      2 years\n\nEligibility: Applications may be submitted by non-
profit and for-profit organizations\, public and private institutions\, su
 ch as colleges\, universities\, hospitals\, laboratories\, units of state
and local government\, companies\, and eligible agencies of the federal go
vernment. Applications are welcome from any country\, provided the propose
d work is compliant with the United States Treasury Department’s Office
of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) sanctions program.\n\nHow to Apply: The EO
SS RFA will be a two-step process: an initial Letter of Intent (LOI)\, fol
lowed by invitations to a select number of applicants to submit a Full App
lication. LOIs do not need a full budget\, a finalized list of personnel\
, deliverables\, or institutional sign-off. A subset of the LOI applicants
will be invited to submit a full application. Detailed budgets are requir
ed at the full application stage\, and should include overhead of 15%. Ins
titutional Approval Forms are also required at the full application stage\
; please contact the Research Office for this step.\n\nDeadline (LOI):

     19 April 2022 (5:00 pm PT)\nDeadline (Full proposal\, by invite):
                  02 June 2022\n\nFurther information\n\n	C
heck out the EOSS project already running at EPFL: DeepLabCut\n	More infor
mation about the program is available here\n	The application portal can be
found here\n	For any other questions\, please contact the Research Office
