DESCRIPTION:Dr Daryl W. Yee\nAbstract:\nThe ability to precisely dictate m
aterial structure over multiple length scales — from molecular compositi
on to material microstructure to macroscale architecture — to obtain enh
anced or previously impossible material properties\, is key to the develop
ment of new technologies that could help tackle many of the sustainability
challenges facing society today. As such\, there have been significant in
terest in developing synthetic and manufacturing strategies\nthat enable t
he fabrication of materials with precise form and function. In this semina
r\, I will highlight two such strategies\, additive manufacturing (AM) and
self-assembly\, and discuss how rational polymer design can enhance their
capabilities and enable the manufacturing of advanced materials at varyin
 g length scales.\n\nAbout the speaker:\nDaryl W. Yee is currently a postdo
ctoral associate at MIT. He obtained his Ph.D. in Materials Science from C
altech. He received his B.Eng in Materials Science and Engineering from Im
 perial College London.
