  the new edition of the book Making Space written by Matrix and published 
 by Verso\, in the presence of Jos Boys\, co-founder of Matrix and co-writ
 er of the book.\n\nMaking Space is a pioneering work first published in 19
 84 which challenges us to look at how the built environment impacts on wom
 en’s lives. It exposes the sexist assumptions on gender and sexuality th
 at have a fundamental impact on the way buildings are designed and our cit
 ies are planned. The texts provide a full blown critique of the patriarcha
 l built environment both in the home and in public space\, and outline alt
 ernative forms of practice that are still relevant today.
