 \, Harvard University)\nAbstract Weft\, or v-bed\, knitting is a versati
 le process used to manufacture a huge range of objects including clothing\
 , vehicle upholstery\, ducting\, and aerospace parts. The stitches formed 
 on either bed are identical reflections of each other. I will explain the 
 programming and manufacturing process of knitting. We then discuss a parti
 cular case\, in which the existing symmetry in a knit stitch and a periodi
 c pattern results in a self-folding pattern which exhibits multiple stable
  configurations. We explore the energy landscape of these knits using fini
 te element simulations\, and tune the geometric parameters to optimize the
 ir mechanical properties.\n\nBio Kausalya is a PhD student in materials s
 cience and mechanical engineering at Harvard University\, advised by Prof.
  Katia Bertoldi. She completed her BA at Harvard University and masters at
  ETH Zurich and is fascinated by all forms of textiles.
