DESCRIPTION:The CLIMACT seminar series “How to move forward and act on c
 limate change” is an interactive online event. It takes place twice a mo
 nth\, every second Monday during your lunch break\, with two new speakers.
  Each episode aims to strengthen the dialogue and collaboration between ke
 y UNIL and EPFL scientists\, swiss politicians\, entrepreneurs and various
  actors from the civil society\, through collective reflection. A wide ran
 ge of climate change-related topics will be discussed\, integrating perspe
 ctives from all sectors and academic disciplines in order to generate new 
 leads and initiatives towards systemic solutions. Participants are welcome
  to take part in the discussion in English or French.\n \n\nLe retour du

  XXème siècle\, négligé dès les années 1950\, le vélo connaît actu
 ellement une renaissance dans de nombreuses villes. Comme moyen de transpo
 rt\, il ne manque pas d’atouts : silencieux\, sain\, propre\, économe e
 n surface et bon marché. Dans une société que l’on dit hypermobile ma
 is où 60% des trajets ne dépassent pas les cinq kilomètres\, le vélo p
 résente un potentiel intéressant. Sa promotion est de plus en plus inté
 grée dans les agendas politiques ou du moins dans les discours. Mais qu
 ’en est-il sur le terrain ? Comment est vécue la pratique utilitaire du
  vélo ?\nCette présentation se base sur une enquête d’une grande ampl
 eur à laquelle ont répondu près de 14 000 participant·e·s à l’acti
 on bike to work réparti·e·s dans l’ensemble de la Suisse. Elle aborde
  les facteurs qui motivent des pendulaires à enfourcher leur bicyclette e
 t montre les obstacles que rencontre cette pratique entre infrastructures 
 déficientes et manque de légitimité.\n \n\nPassage Paysage – a new m
 odel to transform roads into inclusive multi-mode mobility space\n\n\n\nPr
 esented by Dieter Dietz I Professor at and director of the Section of Arc
 hitecture at EPFL\, and director of the Atelier de la Conception de l’Es
 pace (ALICE laboratory) \n \n\n\n\nCantonal roads function at the interm
 ediary scale between highway infrastructures and capillary road systems in
  cities and agglomerations. At the same time cantonal roads have a long hi
 story and often follow the same trajectories through the territories since
  Roman and earlier times. Due to social\, economic\, geographical and topo
 graphical factors those roads are structurally defined by and embedded in 
 the landscapes that they themselves structure in reverse. Since the 1950ie
 s these roads have been progressively dedicated to the car\, segregating a
 nd marginalizing other modes of transport and fracturing the territory.\nT
 he Passage Paysage model postulates that co-habitation between diverse mod
 es of mobility is possible and that roads should be conceived as commons\,
  to be shared. Fluidity\, spatial efficiency of transport modes\, speed re
 duction\, porosity and connectivity have to be considered in a reconfigura
 tion of the existing road space as public space and in reconnecting it to 
 the landscape\, understanding our habitats as assemblage. The Passage Pays
 age model responds to the urgency of the climate crisis in putting social\
 , economic and health factors in direct correlation with a possible and ef
 ficient transformation of our traffic infrastructures toward multi-mode mo
 bility cohabitation.\n\n\n
