DESCRIPTION:MeteoSwiss issues a call for proposals in the framework of the
  Swiss GAW and GCOS Switzerland. The WMO Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) Pro
 gramme is a partnership involving more than 100 countries that provide rel
 iable scientific data and information on the chemical composition of the\n
 atmosphere\, its natural and anthropogenic change\, and that help to impro
 ve the understanding of interactions between the atmosphere\, the oceans a
 nd the biosphere. The Swiss GAW Programme (GAW-CH) was established in 1994
  and is the Swiss national implementation of the GAW Programme. The Global
  Climate Observing System (GCOS) is a joint initiative of the World Meteor
 ological Organization (WMO)\, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commissi
 on (IOC) of UNESCO\, the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environm
 ent) and the International Council for Science (ISC). The overall goal of 
 GCOS is to ensure the sustained provision of reliable physical\, chemical 
 and biological observations and data records for the climate system as a w
 hole – across the atmospheric\, oceanic and terrestrial domains\, includ
 ing hydrological and carbon cycles and the cryosphere.\n\nThe objectives o
 f the research proposals submitted to this call should be in line with the
  main recommendations of the White Paper (MeteoSwiss 2022)\, which summari
 zes the results of the 1st Swiss National GAW/GCOS Symposium\, held in Ber
 n\, Switzerland\, 13-14 September 2021.\n\nThe current call encourages in 
 particular collaborative proposals of 2-4 institutions that feature approa
 ches to:\n \n\n	Interdisciplinary\, silo-overcoming\, innovative observin
 g\, understanding\, modelling and/or predicting parts of the Earth System\
 ;\n	Closing critical observational gaps in the carbon\, energy and water c
 ycles\, combining insitu and remote sensing observations\, as well as inte
 grating them in modelling frameworks and reanalyses\;\n	Continuously re-vi
 siting calibration\, traceability\, homogeneity of existing ECV’s in ord
 er to guarantee their usability for climate monitoring and climate change 
 detection\;\n	Constraining individual and overall fluxes and processes wit
 hin the carbon\, energy and water cycles individually\, but also across th
 ese cycles\, especially at regional and local scales\;\n	Developing and de
 livering added-value climate and air-quality services\;\n	Developing and p
 romoting effective climate communication tools.\n\n\nWho can apply:\n\n\n	
 The call for proposals is open to individuals and consortia with a legal r
 epresentative affiliated to a Swiss institution in Switzerland. It primari
 ly addresses individuals and consortia that can demonstrate extensive expe
 rience in climate system monitoring and researchrelated to the climate sys
 tem including the composition of the atmosphere in Switzerland.\n	Each app
 licant (=individual or legal representative of a consortium) can submit on
 ly one proposal per call as legal representative.\n	If a consortium includ
 es foreign institutions\, it is imperative that the legal representative i
 s based at a Swiss institution in Switzerland.\n\n\nFunding: For this call
  for proposals\, a total indicative budget of CHF 3.3 million is available
 . It is anticipated that 2-4 projects of consortia of two to four institut
 ions will be supported through this call. A significant in-kind contributi
 on is required.\n\nDuration: 3 years\, starting in December 2022\n\nSubmis
 sion:  The proposals must be submitted via an online platform as one sing
