DESCRIPTION:The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) awards long-term PhD fell
 owships worldwide. The program supports outstanding junior scientists who 
 wish to pursue an ambitious PhD project in basic biomedical research in an
  internationally leading laboratory.\n\nFunding:       € 3’400 /
  month + travel support + family support\n\nDuration:      2 years (e
 xtension to 3.5 years possible)\n\nEligibility: Fellowships are available 
 to European citizens working in Europe or overseas and to non-European cit
 izens pursuing their PhD projects in Europe. The PhD projects must be expe
 rimental\, in the field of basic biomedical research\, and aimed at elucid
 ating basic biological phenomena of human life and acquiring new scientifi
 c knowledge. In addition\, at the deadline:\n\n	Your first university entr
 ance qualification (secondary or high school leaving certificate\, A-level
 s\, or entrance/access test for first university studies after finishing s
 chool) must not have been completed more than 8 years\, i.e. 96 months ago
 .\n	You should apply when you are about to start\, or have just started\, 
 your PhD project\, no preliminary results are expected. If you have begun 
 your project more than six months prior to the deadline\, you are no longe
 r eligible to apply.\n\n\nHow to Apply: The application consists of an app
 lication form on the online portal and letter(s) of recommendation emailed
  directly from the applicant’s supervisors. The application must be writ
 ten in English by the applicants themselves. Applications undergo a two-st
 ep\, peer-review selection process. First-stage notifications are sent out
  about six weeks after the deadline. For selected applicants\, in the seco
 nd phase each application is additionally evaluated by an external expert 
 and the applicant is interviewed by a member of the BIF's staff.\n\nDeadli
