DESCRIPTION:AIM: This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is being issu
ed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency
and Renewable Energy (EERE) Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) to inv
est in innovative research\, development\, and demonstration (RD&D) that a
ccelerates the large-scale development and deployment of solar technology
to support an equitable transition to a decarbonized electricity system by
2035 and decarbonized energy sector by 2050. Achieving this goal will sup
port the nationwide effort to meet the threat of climate change and ensure
that all Americans benefit from the transition to a clean energy economy.
\nThis funding opportunity focuses on the development and application of s
olar technologies to improve the resilience of electric power systems and
the communities they support. Projects funded under this FOA will focus on
community energy resilience. Community resilience can be a comprehensive
term that may apply to different critical services such as water\, energy\
, communications\, transportation and other types of infrastructure. In th
e context of this FOA\, projects will focus efforts on community energy re
silience to investigate the relationship between power systems resilience
and community resilience and determine the ability of a community to prepa
re\, recover\, and adapt from an event that can cause power or energy disr
uption. The RD&D activities to be funded under this FOA will support innov
ative community energy planning methods and technology demonstrations that
can increase energy resilience in response to the impacts of climate chan
ge and extreme weather events such as hurricanes\, flooding\, high winds\,
heat waves\, wildfires\, ice storms\, or other events. These events can c
ause widespread equipment failures and infrastructure damages resulting in
sustained power outages\, particularly in the distribution grids that dir
ectly serve the communities. Innovative approaches to community energy pla
nning and development of resilient clean energy technologies are needed to
mitigate the impact of these disruptions to essential services\, and incr
ease preparedness to withstand and recover rapidly from these events.\n\nA
REAS OF INTEREST\nTo accomplish RACER’s objective\, SETO is interested i
n the following three topic areas:\n\n	Innovative Community-Based Energy R
esilience Planning.\n	Automation strategies for Rapid Energy Restoration.\
n	Innovative Solutions to increase the resilience and Hardening of PV Powe
r Plants.\n\nFor more information about these topic areas and potential pa
rtners\, you may refer to this page.\n\nDEADLINE: The application process
will include two phases: a Concept Paper phase (6 pages maximum) and a Ful
l Application phase. Only applicants who have submitted an eligible Concep
t Paper will be eligible to submit a Full Application. Concept papers must
be submitted by May 26\, 2022 at 5:00 PM ET. Submission Deadline for Appl
ications is July 25\, 2022 at 5:00 PM ET.\n\nELIGIBILITY: EPFL researchers
are eligible to participate as subawardee or as a prime if they possess s
kills\, resources and abilities that do not exist among potential applican
ts in the U.S. Let the Research Office know if you wish to apply as a prim
e and if a waiver is needed.\n\nHOW TO APPLY: Get in touch with potential
partners in the U.S. if you wish to participate as a partner in a collabor
ative project. To apply as a prime\, applicants must register with and sub
mit application materials through EERE Exchange at https://eere-Exchange.e
 nergy.gov \, EERE’s online application portal.\n\nFOR FURTHER INFORMATIO
N: Please refer to the DE-FOA-0002597 (teaming partner list and Q&A are av
ailable) and contact the Research Office for any question and assistance.
An information webinar will be held on 27.04.22 at 1:00 PM ET.\n\n
