CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:AIM: The DOE SC program in Advanced Scientific Computing Resea
rch (ASCR) hereby invites applications for basic research that address fun
damental challenges within DOE’s mission areas of energy (as detailed by
the Energy Earthshots Initiative [1])\, environment\, and security\, and
from a perspective that requires new integrated efforts across multiple ma
thematical\, statistical\, and computational disciplines. This FOA invites
applications for new Mathematical Multifaceted Integrated Capability Cent
ers (MMICCs) to enable greatly enhanced scientific discovery\, design\, op
timization or decision-support capabilities for the increasingly complex s
ystems\, processes\, and problems that arise in science and energy researc
 h. Proposed research tightly focused on the solution of a particular scien
ce or engineering problem are outside the scope of this solicitation.\nThe
se MMICCs will enable applied mathematics researchers to work together in
large\, collaborative teams to develop the mathematics needed to address s
ignificant scientific computing research challenges. The MMICCs allow rese
archers to take a broader view of the problem as a whole\, and devise solu
tion strategies that attack the problem in its entirety by building fundam
ental\, multidisciplinary mathematical capabilities and tools cognizant of
both existing and emerging computing paradigms. The MMICCs teams will hav
e the flexibility and technical expertise to consider all aspects of the p
roblem-solving process simultaneously ⎼ ranging from the mathematical fo
rmulation to the development\, analysis\, integration of appropriate model
s and methods\, and demonstration of results and capabilities.\n\nDEADLINE
: A pre-application (two pages) is required and must be submitted by May 1
7\, 2022 at 5:00 PM ET. Submission Deadline for Applications is June 28\,
2022 at 11:59 PM ET.\n\nELIGIBILITY: EPFL researchers are eligible to part
icipate as subawardee or as a prime if they possess skills\, resources and
abilities that do not exist among potential applicants in the U.S.\n\nHOW
TO APPLY: Get in touch with potential partners in the U.S. if you wish to
participate as a partner in a collaborative project. To apply as a prime\
, pre-applications must be submitted electronically through the DOE SC Por
tfolio Analysis and Management System (PAMS) website https://pamspublic.sc
ience.energy.gov/\n.\nFOR FURTHER INFORMATION: Please refer to the DE-FOA-
0002704 and contact the Research Office for any question and assistance.\n
