 DCML Director\nMichael Wollny is a jazz pianist and composer invited by th
 e Digital and Cognitive Musicology Lab (DCML) as part of the College of Hu
 manities Artist-in-Residence program. His residency runs through the sprin
 g and fall of 2022. On the occasion of his first visit to campus\, the art
 ist will offer a workshop - in collaboration with DCML professor Martin Ro
 hrmeier - as well as a concert at the Rolex Forum with his trio.\n\nTHE WO
 RKSHOP:\nWith Michael Wollny and Prof. Martin Rohrmeier (DCML)\n\n	What ro
 les do ‘artistic research’ and ‘informed intuition’ play in the cr
 eative process?\n	How are pieces created?\n	How are ensembles formed?\n	Ho
 w does one compose for improvising musicians?\n\nUsing selected examples o
 f Wollny’s work\, both as a soloist and as part of an ensemble\, this wo
 rkshop will shed light on underlying motifs\, aesthetic ideas\, musical st
 ructures\, and the working process itself. It will focus on the relationsh
 ip between material\, process\, and moment.\n\nThe workshop is open\, and 
 everybody is invited to bring their own questions\, ideas\, and even their
  own works for feedback and discussion.\nThe workshop will be held in Engl

 he academic discussion will be moderated by Prof. Martin Rohrmeier\n\n	Mic
 hael Wollny (piano)\n	Christian Weber (bass)\n	Eric Schaefer (drums)\n\nMi
 chael Wollny and his trio will perform some of their recent compositions. 
 The event will also feature academic dialogue and interaction with the aud
 ience. It will look into the artists’ workflow\, questions of aesthetics
  and expression\, collective improvisation and the role of the “now” i
