DESCRIPTION:TBD\nHybrid - By invitation only\n\nLipids are fundamental con
stituents of all living beings: they participate in energy metabolism\, ac
count for the assembly of biological membranes\, and act as signaling mole
cules. Brain cells produce thousands of different lipids\, each with a dis
tinct role in these biological processes. With the development of lipidomi
cs\, it is possible to study the lipid compositional complexity of differe
nt brain parts.\nNonetheless\, a systematic and fine-grained characterizat
ion of lipid metabolism in the different brain regions is not available. U
sing MALDI Mass Spectrometry Imaging\, we have recently collected a large
dataset of the spatial distribution at the micrometric scale of hundreds o
f lipids across the entire adult mouse brain: the Lipid Brain Atlas.\nWith
this seminar I would like to present the resource to the faculty and welc
ome the BMI to contribute to our analysis effort: for example with hypothe
ses that could be tested on the dataset. Our online data visualisation too
l permits exploration of the Lipid Brain Atlas supporting collaborative co
ntributions and the exploration of brain regions and circuits that might b
e of particular interest to members of the faculty.\n
