DESCRIPTION:Dr Victoria Richards\nPublishing your work in an influential j
ournal begins with good research\, but there is much more to it. This talk
will demystify the editorial process at Nature Portfolio journals\, inclu
ding Nature\, Nature Chemistry\, Nature Communications\, and Communic
ations Chemistry. What takes a paper from new submission to an accepted ar
ticle? We will discuss what the editors look for in a paper and how best t
o communicate your work to the editor and reviewers to ensure the point ge
ts across. Every stage of the peer review process will be explained\, from
how editors select referees\, to how we make decisions from a set of repo
rts. You will also learn the keys to fashioning a convincing response lett
er and putting together a successful appeal.\n \nDr Victoria Richards is
Chief Editor of Communications Chemistry\, an open access Nature Portfoli
o journal publishing high-quality research\, reviews and commentary in all
areas of the chemical sciences. Victoria obtained her PhD from the Unive
rsity of Nottingham in 2013\, with research experience in the fields of me
 tal-organic frameworks\, surface self-assembly\, molecular magnetism and m
ain group chemistry. Victoria began her editorial career working on ChemC
omm and Chemical Science at the Royal Society of Chemistry\, before mov
ing to Nature Communications in 2016\, where she managed the inorganic\
, materials and physical chemistry team. Victoria became Chief Editor of
 Communications Chemistry in September 2019.\n\n
