DESCRIPTION:Dr Karla Lienau\nSonova AG\nAbstract\nAdditive Manufacturing o
r 3D printing has been a hot topic with many new developments the last 20-
30 years and still is. Even though its many advantages like low material u
sage\, sustainability and great variety of producible shapes\, injection m
olding is often still the preferred manufacturing method due to considerab
ly lower prices per unit for large batch sizes. Additive manufacturing is
often seen as prototyping method. I want to share why this is not the case
in parts of the hearing aid industry\, show you how such parts are produc
ed and why additive manufacturing is the method of choice here.\n\nAbout t
he speaker\nKarla Lienau (BS: 2012 Chemistry at University of Zurich\, MSc
: 2014 Chemistry at ETHZ\, PhD: 2020 Solid state Chemistry / Catalysis at
University of Zurich) has been working as a research engineer at Sonova AG
since 2020. In this role\, she develops and/or evaluates new materials\,
coatings and technologies\, with a focus on custom manufacturing of shells
for earmolds and in-the-ear hearing aids and also performs biological saf
ety evaluations according to ISO 10993-1:2018.\n
