DESCRIPTION:The CLIMACT seminar series “How to move forward and act on c
limate change” is an interactive online event. It takes place twice a mo
nth\, every second Monday during your lunch break\, with two new speakers.
Each episode aims to strengthen the dialogue and collaboration between ke
y UNIL and EPFL scientists\, swiss politicians\, entrepreneurs and various
actors from the civil society\, through collective reflection. A wide ran
ge of climate change-related topics will be discussed\, integrating perspe
ctives from all sectors and academic disciplines in order to generate new
leads and initiatives towards systemic solutions. Participants are welcome
to take part in the discussion in English or French.\n \n\nVariabilité
 es / Himalayas\n\n\n\nPrésenté par Judith Eeckman I Chercheuse post-doc
 té (IGD) I UNIL\n \n\n\n\nLes systèmes hydro-climatiques rencontrés da
ayas: Current State and Future Prospect\n\n\n\nPresented by Binod Dawadi I
  Professor of Climatology\, Tribhuvan University\, Kathmandu\n \n\n\n\nIn
this presentation\, Prof. Binod Dawadi will address Climate Change and it
s impacts on Nepal. Current scenarios show that Nepal has been warming by
about 0.6 oC per decade\, at least three times as high as the global avera
ge. Climate change-induced disaster events are on the rise\, accounting fo
r 80% of loss of property caused by disasters attributable to climate haza
rds\, particularly water-related events such as floods\, landslides and gl
acial lake outburst floods (GLOFs). Impacts of Climate Change are visible
on water resources\, agriculture and the livelihood of the people. People
of the high elevation region of Nepal Himalayas are being affected by the
impact of climate and already creating a new class of climate refugees. Co
llaborative action from national/international organization is needed to m
 ake the Himalayas climate-resilient.\n\n\n
