CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) offers project grants for
interdisciplinary research for researchers employed by an institution of
 the ETH Domain (Eawag\, Empa\, EPFL\, ETH Zürich\, PSI\, WSL).\n\nAs one
of the Strategic Focus Areas of the ETH Domain\, the mission of SDSC is to
accelerate the adoption of data science and machine learning techniques w
ithin academic disciplines of the ETH Domain\, the Swiss academic communit
y at large\, and the industrial sector.\n\nThe goals of the SDSC Collabora
tive Data Science Projects are to help researchers and domain experts leve
rage the state-of-the-art in data science to develop models and analyses t
o support their research. At the same time\, SDSC collaborative schemes ai
m at supporting the application of techniques developed in research labs w
orking on data science methods to real world scenarios.\n\nThrough Collabo
rative Data Science Projects\, the data science team at the SDSC makes ava
ilable to partnering ETH Domain research teams expertise which broadly cov
ers data science modeling techniques including statistics\, statistical si
gnal processing\, machine learning\, deep learning\, and techniques from c
omputer vision\, natural language processing and optimization\, as well as
computational methods for these techniques.\n\nMore information about ong
oing SDSC Collaborative Data Science Projects at https://datascience.ch/ac
ademic-projects/.\n\nThe current call distinguishes between two possible t
racks for collaborative project proposals:\n\n	the general track\, dedicat
ed to Data Science for Domain Science\, as in previous years\n	the LSI tra
ck\, dedicated to Data Science for Large Scale Infrastructures.\n\n\nThe g
eneral track welcomes submissions in all applications domains\, including
environmental sciences\, life sciences including biology and medicine\, ph
ysical and material sciences\, as well as economics and social sciences. T
his year again project proposals focusing on Personalized Health (PH) and
Personalized Medicine (PM)\, including those that address clinical researc
 h questions\, are particularly welcome.\n\nSuch PH/PM projects will receiv
e additional support thanks to a joint initiative between the SDSC and ano
ther ETH Domain Strategic Focus Area\, Personalized Health and Related Tec
hnologies (PHRT)\, in order to create more opportunities to leverage Data
Science for Personalized Health projects.\n\nThe LSI track is dedicated to
Collaborative Data Science projects that are relevant for the design\, op
eration and exploitation of large and complex research infrastructures\, t
echnology platforms\, sensor networks\, and databases\, that are operated
by PSI\, Empa\, WSL\, or Eawag. Applicants from all institutes in the ETH
Domain can apply\, as long as the infrastructure is eligible.\n\nGeneral c
onditions:\n\n\n	Eligible Principal Investigator (PI) are employed by an i
 nstitution of the ETH Domain (Eawag\, Empa\, EPFL\, ETHZ\, PSI\, and WSL).
\n	PIs are typically Professors and Senior Collaborative Scientists.\n	Two
-stages application process\, with submission of pre-proposals and full pr
oposals (upon invitation).\n	Continuation of projects funded by a previous
call can be submitted. They are considered as new proposals and subject t
o the same review criteria as new proposals.\n\n\nDuration: max. 24 months
\n\nFunding: max. 240k CHF + other expenses for two or more partnering tea
ms.\n\n\n	The total amount of funding requested for staff hired in the dif
ferent partnering teams cannot exceed CHF 120k total if there is a single
team applying\, and cannot exceed CHF 240k total if there are two or more
Partnering Teams.\n	Only teams from the ETH Domain can be funded in this c
 all.\n
