DESCRIPTION:José Garrido\nEstablishing a reliable bidirectional communica
tion interface between the nervous system and electronic devices is crucia
l for exploiting the full potential of neurotechnologies. Despite recent
 advancements\, current technologies evidence important shortcomings\, e.g
 . challenging high density integration\, low signal-to-noise ratio\,  etc
. Thus\, efforts to explore novel materials are essential for the develop
ment of next-generation neural interfaces. Graphene and graphene-based ma
terials possess a very attractive set of physicochemical properties holdin
g great potential for biomedical applications\, in particular in neural in
terfaces. This presentation provides an overview on fundamentals and appli
cations of several graphene-based technologies and devices aiming at devel
oping an efficient bidirectional communication with the nervous system. T
he main goal of this talk is to discuss pros and cons of graphene-based ne
urotechnologies\, and at the same time to identify the main challenges ah
 ead.
