DESCRIPTION:Prof. Maryam Kamgarpour\nTitle: Learning for safety and coordi
 nation in uncertain dynamical systems\n\nAbstract: Learning algorithms for
  sequential decision-making under uncertainty have been successful in chal
 lenging tasks such as games (chess\, Atari) or online recommendation syste
 ms. Meanwhile\, their applications to safety-critical systems such as huma
 n robot interactions remain limited. I will discuss my group’s work on a
 ddressing two challenges towards enabling learning systems for real-world 
 dynamical system applications: safe learning and multi-agent learning. I w
 ill illustrate our theory and algorithms with applications arising in robo
 tics and autonomous driving.\n\nBio: Maryam Kamgarpour holds a Doctor of P
 hilosophy in Engineering from the University of California\, Berkeley and 
 a Bachelor of Applied Science from University of Waterloo\, Canada. Her re
 search is on safe decision-making and control under uncertainty\, game the
 ory and mechanism design\, mixed integer and stochastic optimization and c
 ontrol. Her theoretical research is motivated by control challenges arisin
 g in intelligent transportation networks\, robotics\, power grid systems a
 nd healthcare. She is the recipient of NASA High Potential Individual Awar
 d\, NASA Excellence in Publication Award\, and the European Union (ERC) St
 arting Grant.\n\n\nThe Center for Intelligent Systems at EPFL (CIS) is a c
 ollaboration among IC\, ENAC\, SB\; SV and STI that brings together resear
 chers working on different aspects of Intelligent Systems.\nIn order to pr
 omote exchanges among researchers and encourage the creation of new\, coll
 aborative projects\, CIS is organizing a "Get to know your neighbors" seri
 es. Each seminar will consist of one short overview presentation geared to
