CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Cyber-threats have been accelerating due to the exponential gr
owth of network connectivity. These new capabilities provide myriad opport
unities for security hackers to wreak significant damage for commercial\,
political\, or other gains.\nTo promote research and education in cyber-de
fence\, EPFL\, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne\, and
the Cyber-Defence (CYD) Campus have jointly launched the “CYD Fellowshi
ps – A Talent Program for Cyber-Defence Research.”\nCYD Fellowships ar
e designed to promote new solutions to major challenges in the fields of s
ecurity and data science by bringing together basic and applied research.
They are open to researchers at master\, doctoral\, or postdoctoral level
who are willing to engage with innovative issues in cyber-defence\, with a
  particular emphasis on:\n\n	Protection of confidentiality\, integrity\, a
nd availability of cyber and cyber-physical systems\n	Information sharing\
, data fusion and crowdsourcing\n	Data science & AI methods for analysing
cyber- and technology-relevant data\n	Security\, privacy and digital trust
technologies.\n\nBy encouraging the training of the next generation of le
ading researchers in Switzerland\, the CYD Fellowships will accelerate the
development of cyber security and privacy solutions\, improving defenders
’ capabilities vis-à-vis attackers. In fostering synergies between univ
ersity-based researchers and cyber-defence stakeholders and promoting the
testing of new solutions\, they will increase the competitiveness of the S
wiss cyber-defence community.\nFunding is available for six-month CYD Mast
er Thesis Fellowships (living allowance and research funds)\; four-year (w
ith a possible one-year extension) CYD Doctoral Fellowships (salary and re
search and conference funds)\; and up to two-year CYD Distinguished Postdo
ctoral Fellowships (salary and research and conference funds). CYD fellows
are hosted by a higher education institution in Switzerland and conduct t
heir research at the CYD Campus located on the premises of EPFL and ETHZ a
nd in its office in Thun.\nThe CYD Campus is a cyber-competence center cre
ated by the Swiss Federal Department of Defence\, Civil Protection and Spo
rt. It acts as an anticipation platform for identifying and assessing tech
nologies\, commercial and social cyber trends\, as well as the subsequent
usage scenarios. It is committed to innovative\, application-oriented rese
arch and works to translate research findings into solutions alongside sta
rt-ups and the established companies in the field of security.\nThe CYD Fe
llowships are supported by armasuisse Science and Technology.\nThe sixth c
all for proposals is now open with a rolling call for Master Thesis Fellow
ship applications\, and with a deadline for Doctoral and Distinguished Pos
tdoctoral Fellowship applications on 15 August 2022 (17:00 CEST).\nAn onli
ne applicant workshop will be held on 29 June 2022 from 10:00 to 10:45 CES
 T. The event registration form can be accessed here.\n
