DESCRIPTION:Aim: BrightFocus provides research funds for researchers pursu
 ing pioneering research leading to greater understanding\, prevention\, an
 d treatment of age-related macular degeneration. This fellowship program i
 s intended to support young postdoctoral researchers during their final st
 ages of mentored training. The award provides salary support for a young s
 cientist to conduct postdoctoral studies in an established laboratory focu
 sed on research contributing to understanding the biological causes and/or
  new clinical treatment of macular degeneration and should also serve as t
 he basis for the applicant's own independent research career. \n\nDuratio
 n:      2 years\n\nFunding:       $ 200’000\n\nEligibility: Can
 didates must hold an MD\, PhD\, DVM\, DO\, OD or equivalent degree receive
 d no more than four years before the time of application. For clinician sc
 ientists\, this application should be submitted within two years after com
 pletion of their final clinical training. Exceptions to the above four-yea
 r and two-year eligibility period will be considered under unusual circums
 tances. Applicant may apply for this fellowship before completing their te
 rminal degree\, if they have a firm commitment from the laboratory head in
  which training will take place\, and the applicant is the main author of 
 the application. Fellowship may be performed in a non-profit\, governmenta
 l\, academic research institution\, or at a for-profit including start-up 
 and biotech institution.\n\nHow to Apply: MDR employs a two-tiered review 
 process in which proposals are first submitted by Letter of Intent. Letter
