CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program
(CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Kidney Cancer Resear
ch Program (KCRP) Awards. Four award programs are available:\n \n\n	The F
Y22 Concept Award supports highly innovative\, untested\, potentially grou
ndbreaking novel concepts in kidney cancer. The Concept Award is not inten
ded to support an incremental progression of an already established resear
ch project but\, instead\, it allows Principal Investigators (PIs) the opp
ortunity to pursue serendipitous observations. Preliminary data are not al
lowed and should not be discussed. This award mechanism supports high-risk
studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for invest
igation. Applications must describe how the new idea will enhance the exis
ting knowledge of kidney cancer or develop an innovative and novel course
of investigation. Research completed through a Concept Award may generate
sufficient preliminary data to enable the PI to prepare an application for
future research.\n	FY22 Postdoctoral and Clinical Fellowship Award suppor
ts recent doctoral or medical school graduates in pursuit of innovative\,
high-impact kidney cancer research during their postdoctoral and/or clinic
al fellowship and allows them to obtain the necessary experience for an in
dependent career as a leader in kidney cancer research. Applicants must de
monstrate that the proposed research has high potential to lead to\, or ma
ke\, significant advancements in kidney cancer research and/or patient car
 e. Applicants for this award must also exhibit a strong desire to pursue a
career in kidney cancer research\, with clear evidence for a researcher d
evelopment plan that will lead to a successful independent career in kidne
y cancer.\n	FY22 Translational Research Partnership Award supports partner
ships between clinicians and research scientists that will accelerate the
movement of promising ideas in kidney cancer toward clinical applications.
This award supports the development of translational research collaborati
ons between two independent\, faculty-level (or equivalent) investigators
to address a central problem or question in kidney cancer in a manner that
would be less readily achievable through separate efforts. One partner in
the collaboration must be a research scientist and the other must be a cl
inician.\n	FY22 Idea Development Award s intended to support innovative id
eas and highimpact approaches\, based on scientifically sound evidence\, t
o move toward the KCRP vision of eliminating kidney cancer. The research p
roject should include a well-formulated\, testable hypothesis based on str
ong scientific rationale and a well-developed and articulated research app
roach. Personnel on the proposed team should have a strong background in k
idney cancer research.\n\n\nAREAS OF INTEREST (Concept and Idea Developmen
t Award)\n\nThe KCRP Focus Areas are presented below:\nConduct basic biolo
gy research to better understand etiology and cancer progression\, metasta
tic disease\, refractory disease and therapeutic resistance\, genetic and
environmental risk factors\, and the prevention of kidney cancer.\n• Def
ine the biology of rare kidney cancers and develop treatments to improve o
utcomes and reduce death.\n• Identify and develop new strategies for scr
eening\, early-stage detection\, and accurate diagnosis and prognosis pred
iction of kidney cancers\, with examples including biomarkers and imaging.
\n• Develop novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of kidney can
cer\, such as novel drug targets\, therapeutic modalities and agents\, tre
atment combinations and drug delivery systems.\n• Identify and implement
strategies to improve the quality of life and survivorship for patients.\
n• Identify and implement strategies to mitigate health disparities\, su
ch as access to healthcare\, social and cultural factors\, environmental f
actors\, and biological contributors.\n• Support preparation and develop
ment of the next generation of kidney cancer researchers\, or cultivate co
llaborations in kidney cancer research or patient care in alignment with t
he KCRP Overarching Strategic Goals.\n\nDEADLINE:\n\n\n	FY22 Concept Award
