DESCRIPTION:Vivek Gilani\, Fairconditioning\nPresentation\n\nVivek Gilani\
, Director of the Indo-Swiss Fairconditioning Programme\, a project to red
uce emissions from air conditioning and cool India sustainably\, will pres
ent the conference "Architecture without air conditioning". This invited t
alk is co-organised on 31 August 2022 at 17:30 at the blue Hall of bluefac
tory (room HBL0 21A) in Fribourg by Noé21 and the Smart Living Lab with t
he collaboration of the TRANSFORM Institute of the School of Engineering a
nd Architecture of Fribourg.\n\nAbout Vivek Gilani\n\nVivek Gilani is the
founder of cBalance Solutions\, an organization that co-created the Fairco
nditioning programme. He is an Ashoka Fellow and an Environmental Engineer
(MS Environmental Engineering\, University of Massachusetts) with experti
se in Water\, Wastewater Treatment and GHG Inventorying\, and Energy Audit
 ing/Analytics.\n\nAbout Fairconditioning\n\nFairconditioning is a Building
-Cooling Demand-Side-Management (DSM) related education\, capacity buildin
g\, and pilot implementation programme.\nIt is designed as an evidence-bas
ed policy support programme that seeks to create a critical mass of eviden
ce for programmes that could be scaled-up across India and other tropical
climates to achieve behaviour change amongst occupants of conditioned indo
or spaces\, reduce building heat loads (cooling demands)\, reduce energy a
nd GHG intensity of artificial cooling systems.\n\nIt focuses on achieving
indoor thermal comfort\, in tropical climates\, while reducing or avoidin
g conventional air-conditioning in order to reduce energy demand\, and the
reby improve energy access and lower GHG emissions. The program articulate
s a three-iii approach for transforming the cooling of interiors in tropic
al climates: improving energy-efficiency (EE) in the continuing building b
oom\, integrating the most energy efficient-technologies to address coolin
 g load in buildings\, and\, influencing corporate consumer behaviour.\n\nI
n operation since October 2012\, the programme is organized into four sub-
projects that focus on education (Academic Curricula Integration Project\,
ACIP)\, capacity building (Professional Ecosystem Support Project\, PESP)
\, corporate technology adoption (Sustainable Cooling Adopters Network\, S
CAN)\, and corporate behaviour change (Corporate Thermal Comfort Policies
Campaign Project\, UpBy2) with the legacy of establishing a sustainable co
oling eco-system and driving evidence-based policy-change. This policy cha
nge will be created through distilling field experiences\, over the progra
m period\, to establish a critical mass of evidence for additional program
s that could be scaled-up across other tropical climates to achieve behavi
our change amongst occupants of conditioned indoor spaces\, reduce buildin
g heat loads (cooling demands)\, and reduce energy and GHG intensity of ar
 tificial cooling systems.
