 e et de l’hydrogène en Suisse et en Europe \nIn the context of energy 
 supply shortages in Switzerland and in Europe\, electrochemistry will play
  an even larger role in the storage of electricity either for mobility or 
 stationary applications\, in the capture of CO2 and in hydrogen production
 . We shall review the latest technical developments including photo-pyroly
 sis and how these will impact the energy transition and their geopolitical
  consequences.\n\nBiography\nAfter a PhD at the University of Southampton 
 (England) in 1982\, Hubert Girault was Lecturer at the University of Edin
 burgh (Scotland)\, before joining EPFL in 1992 as Professor of Physical Ch
 emistry. Apart from his administrative duties (Section Director\, Institut
 e Director\, Dean of the Bachelor/Master studies\, VP PPUR\,..)\, he has s
 upervised 70 PhD students and many post-doctoral fellows. More than 30 alu
 mni of his laboratory are now Professors around the world. His fields of i
 nterest have been fundamental electrochemistry\, and its analytical and en
 ergy applications.\n
