DESCRIPTION:Prof. Lei Wei\, Nanyang Technological University\, Singapore\n
Thermally Drawn Advanced Functional Fibers for Wearable Electronics\nTherm
ally drawn multi-functional fibers have emerged as a new yet promising rou
te to enable unprecedented development in information technology. By adopt
 ing the well-developed preform-to-fiber manufacturing technique\, a broad
range of functional materials can be seamlessly integrated into a single f
iber at kilometer length to deliver sophisticated functions. Here\, we pre
sent the recent development of thermally drawn advanced functional fibers\
, from the fundamentals to in-fiber device demonstration. Especially\, the
integration of semiconductor materials into fiber geometries provides a u
nique route to introduce new functionalities into the existing fiber techn
ologies. The main fabrication approaches to produce these fibers are summa
rized. Also\, the prospects and applications of this new class of fibers a
re discussed.\n\n	Reference to 2 papers that are central / most important
to your talk. This helps students to prepare and dive into your subject de
 eper.\n\n\n\n	J. Zhang\, T. Zhang\, H. Zhang\, Z. Wang\, C. Li\, Z. Wang\,

r at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He currently serves as
the Director of the Centre for Optical Fibre Technology (COFT) at Nanyang
Technological University.  He received the B.E. degree from the Wuhan Un
iversity of Technology in 2005 and the Ph.D. degree from the Technical Uni
versity of Denmark in 2011. Then he joined the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology as a postdoctoral associate. In 2014\, he joined the Nanyang Te
chnological University in Singapore as a Nanyang Assistant Professor. In 2
019\, he was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. His main researc
 h interests are fiber-based devices\, multi-functional fibers\, bio-fiber
interfaces\, and in-fiber energy generation and storage. He also serves as
the chairman of the IEEE Photonics Society Singapore Chapter and the chai
r of the Optica (formerly OSA) Singapore Section.\n
