DESCRIPTION:EPFL's mission is to respond through its research to major soc
 ietal challenges. This is why it has a duty to develop science-based engin
 eering solutions to address the climate crisis and ensure a sustainable wo
 rld. It has therefore decided to allocate significant funding for a new in
 itiative called Solutions4Sustainability.\n \nThe call for proposals will
  be launched by the end of October 2022 and will close on Sunday\, 15 Janu
 ary 2023 at 23:59 CET.\n \nThe initiative aims at developing sustainable 
 solutions for reducing our energy dependence and carbon footprint as well 
 as leveraging EPFL’s capabilities in research and innovation around Gree
 n Energy\, Storage and Sustainability (GESS) and Carbon capture\, Usage an
 d Storage to create an excellence area with demonstrators on our Campus an
 d solutions ready for scale-up.\n\nThe objective is to identify by early 2
 023:\n\n	up to ten short-term and mid-term projects that could significant
 ly reduce CO2 footprint\, in particular of the EPFL Campus. These projects
  are envisaged to span 1-2 years with an implementation by the end of 2024
 .\n	up to two ambitious mission-oriented projects whose feasibility and la
 rge scale deployment for societal use should be demonstrated by 2027. Thes
 e projects are envisaged to last 6 years with 2 phases of 3 years.\n\n\nTh
 e call for proposals will be open to the entire EPFL community (faculty\, 
 researchers\, collaborators\, students). Each proposal will have to involv
 e at least one faculty member from EPFL.\n\nIf you are interested\, we enc
 ourage you to start exploring potential projects and collaborations\, as t
 here may be limited time once the call is launched.\n\nAs a complementary 
 action\, in order to involve the student community\, an Energy/Sustainabil
 ity Hackathon will be organized to generate concrete\, everyday actions to
 wards a sustainable future. It will take place during the winter – stay 
 tuned for more information.\n\nWe look forward to having as many of you as
