DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: New deadline of 14 December 2022 (updated from 22.11.2
 2)\n\nAim:  This RFP will support research designed to develop novel smal
 l-molecule antivirals targeting pandemic influenza. PAD funding can suppor
 t preclinical activities and phase I clinical trials\, but not later stage
  clinical trials. Special consideration will be given to therapeutic modal
 ities that are suitable for deployment in low resource settings. Researche
 rs from around the world are encouraged to submit proposals.\n\nProposals 
 should be consistent with at least one of these 4 areas:\n\n	Direct acting
  antivirals with data demonstrating clear differentiation from currently m
 arketed influenza antiviral products\n	Host targeted therapies with data d
 emonstrating clear benefit over currently marketed influenza virus therape
 utics\n	Compounds that target multiple pathways or mechanisms to reduce th
 e likelihood of resistance emergence\n	Compounds demonstrating activity ag
 ainst drug resistant influenza variants\n\nIn addition to improved clinica
 l efficacy over standard of care\, attributes that define differentiation 
 include shorter duration of therapy\, reduced dosing frequency\, improved 
 safety\, lower cost of goods\, higher barrier to resistance and/or novel t
 argets/mechanism of action.\n\nFunding:       $2M (exploratory proje
 cts)\n                       $10M (validation projec
 ts)\n\nDuration:      1 – 3 years\n\nEligibility: Applicants must b
 e established investigators with their own line of research and must be em
 ployed for the duration of the project at the administrating institution r
 egistered in the proposal. Projects can be anchored at any type of researc
 h organization\, including academia\, not-for profit and commercial organi
 zations. The scope of the project must be within the scientific scope of t
 his RfP and support the PAD aspirations. An applicant (i.e.\, the principa
 l investigator (PI) responsible for the project and submitting the proposa
 l) may submit only one proposal to this specific RfP.\n\nHow to Apply: The
  2-step application process begins with a pre-proposal\, which can be subm
 itted via the NORMA platform.  Proposals and material submitted will be e
 valuated by scientific program officers from Bill and Melinda Gates Founda
 tion\, Open Philanthropy and Novo Nordisk Foundation. Based on this evalua
 tion\, the outcome can be either an invitation to submit a full proposal t
 o one of the three foundations or a rejection letter informing the applica
 nts that their proposal will not be considered for funding. Notification o
 f outcome of the first phase is expected by the end of May 2023. Upon invi
 tation to submit a full proposal to one of the three foundations\, applica
 nts will work directly with that specific foundation to develop the full a
 pplication\, and the processes may differ depending on the foundation.\n\n
