 ries have\, at least under certain natural hypothesis\, the same class in 
 a suitable variant of the Grothendieck ring of varieties. This has some ap
 plications to the derived invariance of Hodge numbers. It is a joint work 
 with Luigi Lombardi and Giuseppe Pareschi.
