DESCRIPTION:Priscilla Briquez\, Assistant Professor\, Medical Center\, U
niversity of Freiburg (DE)\nWEEKLY EPFL BIOE TALKS SERIES\n\nAbstract:\nPr
otein engineering is a very powerful tool to improve clinical delivery of
therapeutic protein drugs. Indeed\, the efficacy of a drug does not only r
ely on its intrinsic bioactivity\, but is also strongly modulated by its i
nteractions within the microenvironment\, as well as by its ability to rea
ch the correct receptors and cellular compartments in targeted cells. In t
his lecture\, we will discuss how protein engineering and drug delivery sy
stems can substantially increase therapeutic effects of protein drugs\, ba
sed on selected examples from regenerative medicine and cancer immunothera
py applications. More specifically\, we will focus on the engineering of i
nteractions between growth factors and the extracellular matrix to enhance
tissue healing\, and the delivery of antigen to improve immunotherapy for
melanoma cancer. \n\nBio:\nPriscilla Briquez received her master’s deg
ree in Bioengineering from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne
(EPFL) in Switzerland in 2011. She then continued her studies as a PhD stu
dent in the laboratory of Prof. Jeffrey A. Hubbell at EPFL\, and specialis
ed herself in protein engineering for applications in regenerative medicin
 e. Her PhD work got awarded by the Institute of Bioengineering Award in 20
15 and the EPFL Thesis Award in 2017. During her PhD\, Priscilla co-funded
and presided the Association of PhD Student in Life Sciences (ADSV\, EPFL
) and was involved in the school activities as a PhD student representativ
 e. After her PhD graduation in 2016\, she moved with the Hubbell laborator
y in the Institute for Molecular Engineering at University of Chicago (Uni
ted States of America)\, where she continued her post-doctoral research
in the field of immunoengineering and cancer immunotherapy. Priscilla h
as recently been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Medical Cente
r - University of Freiburg in Germany. Her laboratory works in molecular
immunoengineering for cancer and regenerative medicine. \n\nZoom link (w

ts who are under EDBB’s mandatory seminar attendance rule:\nIF you are n
ot attending in-person in the room\, please make sure to\n\n	send D. Reinh
ard a note before noon on seminar day\, informing that you plan to attend
the talk online\, and\n	be signed in on Zoom with a recognizable user name
(not a pseudonym making it difficult or impossible to be identified).\n\n
Students attending the seminar in-person should collect a confirmation sig
nature after the talk - please print your own signature sheet beforehand (
