DESCRIPTION:Gerd Kortemeyer\, ETHZ\nThe pandemic prompted significant shif
 ts in the mechanisms of university teaching. \n\nApproaching the tail en
 d of the pandemic\, students have increasingly been given greater flexibil
 ity on how (and if) to attend lectures\; whether on campus (in person)\, s
 ynchronously online\, or asynchronously online (simply by watching recordi
 ngs).\n\nFaculty have thus rethought how they deliver lectures and blend
 ed\, hybrid\, or flipped scenarios are increasingly being considered.\n\n
 The question now is where are we going with this\, and what difference wil
 l it make? \n\nIn this session of lunch&LEARN\, Dr Gerd Kortemeyer\, Dir
 ector of the Educational Development and Technology (LET) department at ET
 H Zurich and Associate Professor Emeritus at Michigan State University\, w
 ill present studies conducted with 285 students in an introductory physi
 cs course at MSU\, and with 17\,641 students and 639 faculty members at E
 TH Zurich. \n\nKortemeyer will go over his findings\, which indicate that
  there is no significant difference between in-person and online attendanc
 e\, particularly when it comes to exam performance. \n\nRather\, the find
 ings seem to indicate that it is our understanding of teaching and learnin
 g in higher education as we know it that may be undergoing subtle changes.
