CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:\nAim: The Simons Foundation seeks to create strong collaborat
ions and foster the cross-pollination of ideas between investigators\, as
these interactions often lead to unexpected breakthroughs. Towards this en
d\, in 2012 the foundation launched a new collaborative funding model\, th
e Simons Collaborations\, which funds groups of investigators — often fr
om different disciplines — to work together on a timely and important pr
oblem.\n\nThe goal of the Simons Collaborations is to bring together group
s of outstanding scientists to address topics of fundamental scientific im
portance\, with a focus on fields in which significant new developments ha
ve created novel opportunities for exploration. To enable bold\, creative
and innovative research\, each collaboration is funded for ten years (with
a review at year five).\n\nSimons now seeks vision statements to identify
new\, emerging breakthrough areas of neuroscience that are poised for hig
h-impact funding by the Simons Foundation. They are interested in bold and
cutting edge\, idea-generating research that focuses on basic principles
of brain function and may be overlooked or too risky for other funding org
anizations.\n\nSimons will prioritize cross-disciplinary collaborations th
at integrate many levels of analysis\, methodologies\, ways of thinking\,
and scientific communities. A goal is to encourage conversations within an
d across fields while bringing together diverse groups of researchers to i
nvestigate important questions about the basic principles of brain functio
 n. Investigators in a Simons Collaboration are expected to openly share da
ta\, code\, analysis pipelines\, protocols and reagents. Proposals should
include junior investigators and investigators from a diversity of academi
c disciplines\, genders\, races and ethnicities in a Simons Collaboration.
 \n\nDuration:      10 years\n\nFunding:       USD $5M-12M / year\
 n\nEligibility: All investigators must hold a Ph.D.\, M.D. or equivalent d
egree and have a faculty position or the equivalent (eligible for receivin
g grant funding) at a college\, university\, medical school or other resea
rch facility. In addition\, eligible applicants must have independent rese
arch space at their institution.\n\nHow to Apply: Vision statements should
be no longer than two-pages\, single-spaced\, 11 pt New Times Roman font\
, 0.5 in margins plus one page (if needed) of figures\, references\, the a
nticipated overall yearly total cost and list of proposed PIs. Vision stat
ements will be reviewed by the Simons Foundation with input from outside r
eviewers. 10–20 submissions will be invited (06.2023) to submit a 20-pag
e full proposal including a finalized list of investigators and a detailed
budget. Full proposals will be reviewed\, and 3–5 submissions will be i
nvited (12.2023) to the Simons Foundation for workshops with all investiga
tors involved in the proposed collaboration. Up to three collaborations wi
 ll be funded.\n\nDeadline:      08-March-2023 (Vision statement)\n\nFu
rther information\n\n	More information about the program is available here
.\n	There will be an informational webinar on December 12\, 2022\, from 1:

e application portal SAM can be found here.\n	For any other questions\, pl
